My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Update 8.1.24

Dolly the Boxer!

Dolly is the perfect little buddy for people who love dogs and want that wiggle butt greeting you when you come home, but aren’t down for the challenge of raising a puppy or of training a younger dog. Bonus: She lets you sleep-in in the morning!

Dolly is believed to have been a former “mill mama”/breeder and has had a difficult life but you couldn’t tell it from her personality. One of the most affectionate and sweet dogs/boxers I’ve ever cared for, Dolly is content to lay on the couch with you or will follow you around and help you with whatever projects you’re working on. She loves attention and being petted andtalked to, telling her what a good girl she is. Despite what is in her past, she still has the basic Boxer instincts of sweetness, sensitivity, loving people, and wanting to please you. Dolly is healthy, doesn’t appear to have any allergies, is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Dolly will reluctantly go in her kennel but seems fine once she’s in it. I’ve left her out alone forshort periods and she has done just fine. She happily sleeps in her own bed at night in your room but would also sleep on the bed with you if you’d let her! She is potty trained but I’mtraining her to signal us with a jingle bell as well. She loves food and treats (is motivated to learn with treats) and will definitely watch you eat but she’s well-mannered and I haven’t found her to be food protective at all (I’ve had to stick my hand in her mouth to see what she found on the floor and she didn’t resist). She also lets me pick her up and lets me clip her nails!

After being a mill dog - and who knows what else she’s been through - she is dog reactive, so she would need to be the only dog in the home and she is also very interested in the local rabbit population so a fenced in yard would be ideal.

She is all of the best parts of a dog and a boxer and will make a snuggly (and wiggly) addition to your family!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process consists of:

I. Completing an Adoption Application

II. Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check

III. Home Visit

IV. Adoption Fee

I Completing an Adoption Application
We screen potential adopters very carefully in order to find the best possible match for both you and our foster dogs. All adoptions are expected to be lifetime commitments!

You must be a Minnesota resident, and at least 21 years old.

All existing pets in your home must be up to date on all vaccinations, and must be-spayed/neutered (no boxers will be placed into homes known to have intact companion animals.)

We require that you complete the entire application including the contact name/ phone number of veterinarian, and personal references.

We as volunteers would like to observe the interaction of the Boxer child/children together.

We will disclose all known behaviors, health or emotional issues to applicant prior to adoption.

Fenced yard is required to adopt a deaf dog.

II Veterinarian and Personal Reference Check
Once your references are checked, a volunteer will contact you to discuss potential matches and to schedule a home visit.

III. Home Visit
The purpose of the home visit is to inspect the surroundings in which our foster dogs will live, meet all household family members, address any major concerns, and get to know you better. (We are not at your home to pass judgment on your housekeeping skills.)

During this visit we will set up a date for you to come and meet the Boxer(s) you are interested in (we ask that you bring your family members as well as your existing dogs)

IV. Adoption Fee
Our adoption fee is based on the age and health of our dogs. The fee can range from $200 - 450.00, with $350 being the average. We will not negotiate adoption fees. This is not a "sale" but a fee that enables us to continue to help more Boxers in the future.

Your adoption fee covers:

Physical veterinarian exam
Neuter/Spay
Rabies
DHLPP
Heartworm Test and preventative meds
Fecal Test and any necessary worming
Bordetella
Microchip implant
Any other treatment deemed necessary by our vet

As you can see, our adoption fee covers numerous expenses. Your potential new Boxer will be
covered for all necessary inoculations for the first year. We will provide copies of all services rendered while the Boxer has been in rescue.

Please visit our website at http://www.mnboxerrescue.org to complete an adoption application and begin the process.

Go meet their pets

MN Boxer Rescue is 100% foster based. We do not have a shelter or central location where dogs are housed. Visit the events page on our website to find out about our meet and greet events.

More about this rescue

When Boxers are in need, Minnesota Boxer Rescue dedicated volunteers respond. Our mission includes hands-on rescue, as well as education.

Many of our beautiful Boxers have had a very "ruff" start, for various reasons, please be assured that we have dedicated ourselves to helping as many of these dogs as we possibly can.

When a dog comes into our rescue program they are examined by our vet, brought up to date on vaccines, heart worm tested, (placed on heart worm preventive medication) and fecal tested. All dogs are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We evaluate each Boxer's personality and temperament, so he/she can be placed in the best home suited for that dog.
