My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Snuggly and loving!

Why, hello there! My name is Chewy, and I’m a 1 year old Long-Haired Chi Mix, weighing in at 20 pounds.

My foster mama says that I’m just the sweetest girl! I enjoy snuggles, playing with my (foster) doggie siblings, getting hugs, and playing fetch.  Most of all, though, I love my people – so much so that I will run and literally put myself into their arms.

Over the last few months, I’ve been working hard on my potty training and have almost mastered it.  I enjoy taking walks and do well on a leash, but I like to get constant support and encouragement when I get scared of something outside.  Crates and I do not mix, so I’d prefer if you did not put me in one! I’ve also already been spayed.

One thing I’ve been working hard on is my anxiety.  I have difficulty adjusting to new people and places, and I have a moderate level of separation anxiety when my humans leave me behind.  However, with some love, patience, and additional training, I know I’ll be able to build the confidence I need in order to greatly improve in these areas! I will be scared and nervous during our first meet, but please know that I do open up to be the sweetest pup! Also, I love the great outdoors and I feel very brave and 'out of the woods' when 'in the woods!' Having a playful dog friend helps me a lot, and as I LOVE them and playing with them, it keeps me active!

My ideal household would be one with a gentle, yet playful, doggie sibling to help me gain confidence.  I’d also prefer to be with someone who works from home and one who could also help me work on my trust and anxiety issues. Kitties and I do just fine together having met a few now. I’d do best around older kids that will be respectful are not too noisy, and allow me time to warm up on my own.

Overall, I promise to be your most loving and loyal companion! Once I’ve bonded with you, I’ll show non-stop love and affection.  Do we sound like a match? My adoption fee is $500 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip.  If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
