Sampson is a Polydactyl Chocolate Highlander Lynx. He is a rare breed, originally purchased from an out-of-state breeder. He is an owner surrender as the owner said he did not get along with another cat in their home. He came to us not neutered, which we are confident was part of the problem. After being neutered and with us for a few weeks, we have seen some behavior indicating that he can be selective with who he interacts with - however, he is not territorial nor confrontational and it has almost exclusively been another cat who has caused any ruckus. He has been free to roam our facility and while he is curious about his new surroundings, he is not a troublemaker.
We have not had the opportunity to observe Sampson with dogs so that is an unknown. We recommend that he goes into a home with older children and younger children and toddlers may not respect his space and could pull or grab his ears, which is a delicate feature with this particular breed of cat.
Breed facts:
- Highlander cats are considered rare because they're a purebred exotic breed
- Highlander cats have ear tips that bend backwards. This is a physical trait that requires extra care to avoid ear infections.
- Polydactyl cats often have extra toes that are a bit more challenging to trim and can lead to overgrown nails that can penetrate the skin - routine nail trimming is essential
Personality-
A very active, powerful breed, Highlanders like to run, play, and chase. They are patient and gentle with kids, who are often their preferred playmates. Cat trees and durable toys will help prevent these high-energy kitties from getting bored.
Sampson has a known birthdate of 12/29/22.
