Dog Name: Bill Monroe
Breed: Hound Mix
Sex: Male
Age: 6 years
Weight: 60lbs
Medical Needs: Bilateral hip dysplasia and bilateral luxating patellas. Was evaluated for possible bilateral cruciate tears, but no evidence was found of that. He takes Dasuquin supplements and carprofen daily for pain management.
His joint issues make him walk a little funny occasionally. To help him avoid injury, excessive play and exercise should be avoided. Regular walks are great, and he loves them, but he can’t be a running or hiking partner.
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: Yes. He has previously struggled with separation anxiety and was able to escape a wire crate. In his current foster home, he uses an industrial crate.
Good in the car: Yes.
Good on a leash: Yes, Bill is a great walking companion.
Energy level: Medium. Bill loves to go on walks or run around and play in the yard, then he is happy to cuddle with his humans or lay down with a yummy bone to chew.
Need a fenced-in yard: No
Dog Friendly: Yes he is very playful with other dogs. He was initially shy in my home until he learned other dogs were there!
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? Yes. Bill seems to be much more comfortable with other dogs around. Another well-adjusted dog in the home would benefit Bill.
Cat Friendly? Unknown
Kid Friendly: Yes. Bill currently has an 8-year-old child in his foster home whom he adores.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any with appropriate supervision. Bill is very sweet and gentle.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Bill was previously in a home where his owner worked long days outside the home. Bill began to show separation anxiety and made some escapes from his wire crate, and was destructive when left out of the crate at home alone. Bill would do best in a home with owners who are home during the day or someone who is able to have a dog walker come to break up the work day. He is doing great with no signs of separation anxiety at his foster home where he sleeps in his crate and is crated when not supervised. Bill should continue with crate training to prevent opportunities for destructive behaviors when alone and he needs a family willing to continue with his pain management plan.
