My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zipp, also known as Baby Zippy by his volunteer & staff friends! Baby Zippy is a complete delight - she has the softest coat of fur, is friendly and playful! At 9 months young, we are hoping Zippy finds her family so she can live up these younger years as one should: exploring the world, going on consistent walks, and spending time with people because she LOVES people. She’s so friendly and you’ll see her tail wag immediately when meeting new people or seeing old friends.

Baby Zipp is living with another dog at AAC currently, so living in a household with a dog already is definitely a possibility. To ensure compatibility, we will host a doggy meet up! Do you have a resident dog looking for a little sis to take under their wing? Zippy is going to love that!
The benefits of adopting a 9 month young pup are endless. Baby Zipp is easily impressionable so when it comes to training and learning basic commands, she is going to be a fast learner. Also, by adopting at a young age you will be able to create a lasting bond for life!

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
