CENSUS DEADLINE 5PM NOVEMBER 14, 2024 Name: Simon Animal ID: A846569 Age: 2 years Weight: 39 lbs. About: Simon is a handsome brindle boy in need of a loving forever home or a long-term foster placement (30+ days) through PACC. He originally came to PACC as a stray in April and was previously on an Emergency Placement Deadline in August due to decline in the shelter environment.
The shelter can be extremely stressful, and for Simon, his stress manifests as overstimulation and reactivity to other dogs, resulting in handling difficulties. However, shelter behavior is not indicative of home behavior, and Simon did great in a foster home! Here’s what his foster said:
“Simon is a very energetic and happy boy. He is fairly well crate trained and usually will go right into the crate. Simon rarely barks, but was reactive to a horse, so may do best in a home without livestock.
Simon is still learning how to play with toys and was also working on potty training and doing well. He knows the sit command and usually will come when whistled at (unless he is playing with a toy outside, than all bets are off!)
Simon did well with muzzle training and it seems to bring his energy level down a bit. We used the muzzle quite a bit when introducing him to small dogs and it will be a valuable tool for him.
Simon loves to be around people and seems eager to please. He is very affectionate and loves attention.”
Simon returned from foster care in September and has been doing well but is now at risk again due to continued shelter overcrowding. Finding a forever home would be ideal, as coming in and out of the shelter adds additional stress for many dogs.
Simon is a friendly and affectionate dog who enjoys human companionship- here’s what one of his friends at the shelter said:
“Simon loves people and he’s a good boy. Every time I walk by his kennel he’s wagging his tail like nuts with his sweet smile. He wants to hug volunteers all the time but listens to “uh uh”. I love this handsome guy!”
Simon has coexisted peacefully with other dogs in the shelter, participating in playgroups and even sharing his kennel space. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit.
The shelter`s loud and stressful environment is overwhelming for Simon, but he’ll thrive in a quieter home environment.
