Hi, everyone! My name is Stella. Some kind neighbors spotted me on Stella Link (hence my name) back in March 2024 and teamed up to rescue me. I was nervous at first, but, by day three, I was following my foster mom everywhere and asking for belly rubs (you will often find me laying on my back, belly up). I'm an easy-going, affectionate gal, and am happy to lounge around the house or play with my toys. Once I'm comfortable in my home, you'll occasionally see my silly, playful side. I'm potty trained, go into my crate easily, am very relaxed and quiet in my crate, and I sleep through the night. I currently live with two grumpy, senior small dogs. They growl at me a lot so I give them their space. I also met a neighbor's friendly, 60 pounder and we became friends. I live with two elementary-aged kids and I am very lovey-dovey with them. We snuggle all the time! I am anxious around new people and slow to warm up to them. In April, my foster mom and I started working with a wonderful trainer to curb my reactivity (i.e. stranger danger). I know several commands now--sit, down, touch, and consent to pet. My foster mom and trainer say I'm super smart, highly food motivated, and am doing so much better! I just need a little patience and time to feel safe, especially with men. If you are looking for a sweet, loyal companion, I'm your gal! Apply to meet me today!

Houston Cares Animal Rescue (Formerly known as Westbury CARE) is more than just a 501c3 rescue, it’s a community of animal lovers working together to make a difference for animals in Houston. Started as a small group of neighbors trying to help the animals in their neighborhood; CARE quickly grew into a non-profit rescue because the need in Houston is so great. Despite its growth, CARE has aimed to keep its community feel and is built on the idea that it will take a community of Houstonians to make change. It is estimated that there are over a million strays in Houston. We believe change will only happen through a multi prong approach including rescue, education, spay/neuter, and changes to our legislation. We believe that the more the rescue community works together and supports each other the more the animals benefit and the more change will be seen. We are proud to be a small and growing part of the Houston rescue community.
CARE saves hundreds of animals from the streets of Houston each year. While waiting to find their forever homes, animals live in loving foster homes. This means that the animals are able to adjust to life off the streets and, if needed, learn to trust again. The animals receive full vet care and, if needed, they receive behavior training. The care of each animal usually well exceeds their adoption fee and money is raised through fundraisers and donations. We are asked for help for many new animals every single day but have to turn many of them away due to lack of foster homes. Every time we find a new foster or an animal is adopted we can save more animals off the streets that are waiting for their chance at a new life filled with hope and love. We provide all supplies to fosters, including vet care. Fosters are responsible for supplying a safe loving indoor home to the animal while it looks for its forever home. Fostering gives an animal a chance at a new life.
Beyond our foster group we have other active rescue efforts. We have a trap, neuter, return program helping to spay/neuter and maintain feral cats and cat colonies in SW Houston. We also speak to schools and other groups about rescue and are hoping to grow our outreach program.
Everyone involved with Houston cares Animal Rescue is a volunteer. Although the amount of need can be overwhelming, we give our free time to this cause because we believe that together we can make a difference. We know that every animal saved from the streets has their life completely changed through our efforts and we believe that we have the potential to change the future on a much larger scale through our efforts. We invite everyone to join our community of animal lovers and work alongside us to make change in our Houston community.
