My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Life’s anything but dreary with this dreamy dog!

‘Ello, darlings! My name is Edgar, Edgar Allan Poe to be precise. Unlike my namesake who wrote about doom and gloom, I’m an absolute ray of sunshine. I’m a 3-year-old, 62-pound, neutered shepherd mix. Despite being rescued from the conditions of ESLR (which would make the original Poe’s settings look like Disneyland), I’m happy, healthy, and ready for a furever family!

I’m the friendliest fella who is great at taking cues from other dogs. I do well playing and making new friends! I give all of the kids I meet out and about lots of love, and will do well in a home with kids 7y+ who can follow instructions and are respectful of my space. I have met cats, and I am not a fan! I have an adaptable pawsonality that will leave you smiling day after day. If you’re ready for an adventure, count me in! If you want to chill at home, I’ll keep you company. I enjoy exercise such as walks and playing fetch but I’m also content sunbathing and snuggling with my blanket. Nothing makes me happier than some pats on the head or couch cuds with you!

I’m a very good boy who is a fast learner. I had a few pee accidents when I first moved but quickly learned to go outside. I’m doing well with my leash training and enjoy exploring in the car, too! I sleep through the night in my crate and will greet you with a wagging tail and blankie in my mouth in the morning. I cry for the first 3-5 minutes but settle down shortly. I enjoy chewing on my toys and being your loyal, loving companion.

Since I’m such a sweetheart, I’d do well in a variety of loving homes! I’d thrive with another pup as my bud. I’m happiest by your side and enjoy getting out and being active. Although I need my exercise, I’m also a pretty chill dude who can kick back and relax. I’m the pawfect balance! So stop writing tragic poems and turn your life into smiles and tail-waggin’ fun by adopting me!

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
