My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Aloha! My name is Celadine, and I’m a sweet 3-year-old girl who has been dreaming of my forever family for over 100 days at the Kauai Humane Society. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect beach buddy or adventure partner, look no further—I’m your gal! I absolutely love to explore the outdoors, sniff around, romp, roll, and chase after balls and sticks. There’s so much fun to be had, and I’m all about enjoying life to the fullest! I’m a happy-go-lucky pup with a playful spirit, and I can’t wait to be a part of your adventures! I’m not just about fun and games, though; I’m also a well-mannered lady! I know how to SIT, STAY, and SHAKE—Wahoo! I’m eager to please and super affectionate. But don’t let my playful side fool you; I can be quite chill too! I love snuggling up and giving kisses, making me the perfect cuddle buddy after a day of play. I get along wonderfully with other dogs, making me a great companion for your furry friends too! During walks I won’t pull on the leash and will happily trot alongside you, enjoying all the sights and sounds. I’m definitely an athletic girl who loves to hike and will do anything for a yummy treat! My beautiful eyes, happy face, and loving energy make it hard not to fall in love with me. Guess what? My adoption has been sponsored, which means I could be coming home with you at no cost! I’m looking for an on-island or off-island adoption...I`m ready to take the leap and fly to the mainland to be with my forever family. Whether you want to take me out for a fun field trip or schedule a meet-and-greet to get to know me better, I look forward to meeting you! I`ve been patiently waiting for my forever family for a while now, and I know that special person is out there. Come visit me anytime from 12 PM to 4 PM (except Thursdays), and don’t forget to bring some yummy treats for a happy pup like me! See you soon, friend!

More about this shelter

The Kauai Humane Society was established by the community in 1952 as a local non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to protect Kauai’s animals. We opened our current home just west of Lihue in 2001 thanks to the generous support of many individuals, families, businesses and foundations. We are an independent animal welfare organization and not a chapter of any mainland or Hawaii group.

The Kauai Humane Society(KHS) is the only physical animal shelter in Kauai County, Hawaii. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a government contract to allow KHS to provide services to Kauai County for humane field services for cats and dogs.

Our facility does not turn away any sick or injured cat or dog found on Kauai. We strive to not euthanize any healthy, adoptable, and/or treatable animals for space or treatable medical reasons.

In 2022, for the year overall, KHS achieved a Live Release Rate of 94.4%; meaning 94.4% of the animals that came into KHS during 2022 were released with a positive outcome of being adopted, returned to the owner, or transferred to a rescue group.
