Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.
A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.
Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known.
Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.
Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list.
thanks

Date into Rescue: 7/11/2019, came to CPR after being found as a stray, adopted but returned March 2024 after his owner's health declined and he could no longer take care of the Giz boy
Reason for being in rescue: Originally - Gizmo was found as a stray and landed at the shelter. CPR pulled him from the shelter.
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Gizmo had a dental 4/4/24 and lost 5 teeth. He will need regular dental care to keep his teeth in good shape. Gizmo is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
Weight: 9.2 lb
Height: 10 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Adoption Fee: $200
Fence needed? No
What kind of home would be best for me? This is partly Gizmo's original description - and it has not changed. When the little stray terrier arrived at our rescue, he was a basket case. Worried, nervous and uncertain, he was not easy to manage. But, after first being in foster care for several months and now being in a loving home for 4 years, the most amazing personality emerged. Gizmo wants to be someone's best friend!
Gizmo is looking for that perfect someone who will understand that he was made to be a partner, companion and best friend. He never leaves his foster mom's side. His off leash skills when walking in a wooded area are amazing. He is responsive to cues and loves to learn. Gizmo would be ideal for a single woman or man interested in teaching one very bright dog a lot of tricks. He would do well as an only dog and he co-exists well with the other dogs here. He has one dog he does not like - and she is my toy poodle. I think he's jealous of her. He did the same thing in his home of 4 years, tolerating but never liking the toy poodle who stayed on the wife's lap. While he's not a player, he is good company. He has a tendency to tell big dogs off so if he had a big dog friend, it would have to be a tolerant one. Gizmo has not met a cat.
What is my personality like? As a 9-year-old Terrier mix, Gizmo shows us daily good potty manners, and an ability to follow basic directions. He does not have a sit, rather he stands on his back legs and does a circle when given the cue. This circle redirects his attention to the task at hand.
Gizmo is very vocal. He will talk and talk while you talk back to him. It's a whole convo with
Gizmo taking his side very well. Given this, we don't recommend apartment life or really any life that involves shared walls for Gizmo. He's a single family home sort of man.
Gizmo does have one strong trigger - doors which clue Gizmo a transition is happening. He will react and dart after the person. We thought at first it was a warning to leave his space. We think now it's an attempt to go - for this dog LOVES to go. Besides lap sitting and bed sleeping with his bestie, the next thing on the list is car rides. His owner took him everywhere.
Gizmo is independent, but not aloof. He would love to be just him by your side or, if you've got a friend or two already, we can let them all meet and see how it goes.
How do I act when I first meet new people? Generally, Gizmo is friendly with new people, especially if treats are involved.
Other tips and tidbits: Gizmo's estimated birthday 7/18/2015.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.
To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.
Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
Thank you for considering CPR.
