My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Freckles is ready to talk, shop, ride and walk his way right into your heart. If you are looking for a striking dog with a presence that is both calm and undeniable, Freckles is worth getting to know. A favorite among volunteers who treat the dogs to days out and long car rides, he is such good enjoyable company we had to encourage a few people to consider taking a new dog out. We can’t blame him for giving the good kisses, being a good shopping partner, wanting to talk while you drive, and being friendly enough that strangers are welcome to say hello. There just isn’t enough Freckles to go around. Take a look and see why he is so adored https://youtu.be/x4RRMMpwTMw

Estimated to be right around 3.5 years old and weighing in at an impressive 82 lbs, we believe he may be some beautiful mix of Husky/Pittie/Australian Shepherd. Of course, given it is rescue we cannot offer any guarantees on age or breed but please share DNA results when you get them! We love knowing right along side you what your rescue special is.

Freckles’ dream home is a Dixie Chicks Song- wide open spaces. This boy loves being outside, maybe he has some Great Pyrenees in him, that coat of his is impressive, but he loves the breeze, the smells, the sun… he is truly a dog that loves being outside. Farm dog life feels like the happy ending he would write into the story. But he isn’t all space and fresh air, he loves people and socializing comes easy for him. He will happily snuggle in on the couch at the end of the day but by day, he is all yours, whether you want to drive around running errands or do some winter-prep gardening. His companionship level is set to 10. Easy-going, low-maintenance but always, undeniably, there for you. Plus, he is great with kids! Whether you have your own, grandbabys or neighborhood visitors- Freckles will awe them with his size and soft, patient approach.

Do you know the biggest reason we think he has some Husky in his family tree? He loves to talk about it! So no apartments for him unless you really want to get to know your neighbors. Car rides with the windows down is his version of heaven and even if I didn’t tell you, he would. It’s cute in the way watching undeniable joy is hard to be mad about.

As much as Freckles loves to be out an about, he is a big boy so handling a big dog needs to be familiar if you plan on taking him out and about often. Truthfully, he doesn’t need it but he corrects easily and is treat motivated which primes him perfectly for teaching and training as you see fit for your lifestyle. Also, brace yourself for his “love-lean!” This is when he is ready for a love sesh in the form of pets- here he comes- first step is he is going to lean his love-seeking self right into you. Second step is the eyes that tell you- “it is time and I am ready!” It feels good because there is no denying the love.

So if you want to head into the cold weather equipped with the best heated blanket available, Freckles is an exclusive, one-of-a-kind gentleman. He is ready to be a steady-forever-shotgun-rider and the best yes-man you’ve ever known. Adopt Freckles, as much as our volunteers and staff will miss him, we will be happy to see him join you and your beautiful life.  Apply today!

We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews:
https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.

Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!

Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.

Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.

The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.
While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.

It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!

Follow our rescue journey and connect with us on our website and social media platforms. Together, we can make a difference, one adoption at a time.
