My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Notes: We would welcome a sponsor for Lizzie. With her frail condition, she would love some extra supplements to help her gain strength & improve her skin & hair coat. We do NOT consider her a Hospice dog at this time. She is just very frail, very weak, very thin.

03-22-06 Lizzie was picked up by foster mom, Jo Anne, today from our rescue vet. She is H/W neg., a dental was done.

Initially in a high kill shelter due to her age & health, she was pulled from there by a shelter volunteer. While at the vet this AM picking up Wabbit from her spay, we were told about her. JoAnne then went to look at her, took her into our rescue after speaking with the shelter volunteer.

This is what the volunteer had to say about Lizzie:
"Doc said he has no idea how old the IG is. All he said to me was that she is older than 5!!! Her teeth were/are in bad shape but only lost one. She is heartworm negative. I also weighed her before I took her to the back. She was just an ounce or two (cannot remember) over 8 pounds."

While these pics may be troublesome to look at, this is a nearly furless kid that has already settled down in Jo Anne's arms. I spoke with Jo Anne a bit ago. Lizzie will come to the couch to be picked up, lie under a blanket on the couch, yet is rather weak, wobbles, falls over easily if other dogs bump into her. Thus, Jo Anne has made her a special area to stay in while in the living room. She will be able to watch tv, watch the other dogs, yet be safe.

We will post updates as they become available. We are not sure her vaccinations are up to date. With the condition she is in, it may be best to wait 30 days, allow her to build up her strength.

-03-23-06 We have been advised that Lizzie was given a basic vaccination when she was pulled from the high kill shelter. Unknown about Rabies, & Lizzie is in no shape to receive an extra vacc. at this time.
Jo Anne did check with Doc this AM about her skin. Doc said it is caused by poor nutrition & heavy flea infestation which has already been treated. Lizzie is getting supplements on her food, so we hope to see an improvement within 30 days.

Note 03-23PM - Jo Anne advised us that Lizzie went out the back door, down the steps, into the yard, did her business, then back up the steps, inside. While she was not moving very fast, she did go outside. She appears to have house manners, yet too early to tell for sure. She is still eating like a little horse.

Update 03-24-06 Lizzie rode on Marti's lap as Jo Anne drove Cole Camp pound dog Bart to hook up with the first leg of his trip in KCMO to reach Colorado.
Lizzie rode very quietly, did eat her pre-packaged food every 2 hrs., was even able to get out, walk about Petco for a few steps. Jo Anne, being a protective mother hen, only allowed her a few steps so she did not wear out.
Lizzie is eating quite eagerly, small frequent meals so we are hoping that she will soon gain more strength.
Lizzie did get a very thick pillow bed at Petco with sides to keep her from getting a draft. She will also be wearing sweaters in this chilly weather as so little hair on her thin frame.

Note: 03-26-06 We just received a note from the shelter volunteer that Lizzie may NOT be spayed as originally stated. She has a very large scar which could be the result of a C-section. Thus, we will need to VERIFY the spay status PRIOR to adopting her out. At this time, Lizzie is too weak to undergo surgery.
