Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Born 4/6/2018 Roan is a male Flat Coated Retriever seeking a forever home. Here is what his foster mom says about him, “Roan is easy-going, well mannered, potty and crate trained, and knows basic commands. Roan is good with cats, rats, dogs of all sizes and ages, and kids. He is non-reactive to other animals, including a dominant female dog in his foster home and a grumpy 13-year old cat who swats at him. He has never met a person he doesn’t like and is known for walking up to strangers and sitting on their feet, patiently waiting for pets. Roan walks well on a leash, listens well to commands, and does well in the car and will lay in the backseat in one spot. He is extremely quiet; we have only heard him bark a couple of times in the time he’s been here. Even when our dogs bark, he sits there quietly. He can also be trusted to stay out of his crate at night and happily sleeps at the foot of our bed. Roan weighs approx. 70 pounds but don’t let his size fool you: he is a total lap dog who identifies as a throw blanket. He is low energy and would love to spend the day snuggled up on the couch, getting as many head scratches as you can give. If he could sit in a lap 24/7 he would! He is not shy about his desire for pets; if your hand is next to him but not on him, he will flop it onto his head himself. If you’re lying in bed but not looking at him, he will very slowly wiggle his way up into your face while wagging his tail, and then flop your hand onto his head He is a level 999 clinger when he wants pets and an absolute snuggle champion!
Some things to note:
• Roan is prone to tartar buildup so lots of good chews/antlers/bones in his forever home are needed. (And he *loves* them!)
• Roan needs regular grooming given his beautiful long hair. Home grooming is fine (we brush him out every weekend) but he will get mats if he’s not groomed.
• Roan is allergic to chicken. His adopter(s) will need to be able to provide a diet without chicken as it causes him to be extremely itchy and patches of hair to fall out. We currently have him on a salmon diet and he is doing great!
• Roan requires an impact crate, which is type of metal a crate with flat sides. He can and will scrape up his nose trying to quietly unlock a regular crate.
• Roan will very rarely wobble a bit when he stands up if he’s been sleeping on the hardwood floor. Mikey’s vet has checked out his legs and said he doesn’t need surgery, but we have him on some good vitamins and joint supplements given his age. We recommend that his adopter(s) continue providing him joint supplements in his forever home and have their vet keep an eye on his legs during his regular exams.
• Like all of Mikey’s available dogs, Roan is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations.
We genuinely think that he is the goodest boy and that whomever adopts him will have hit the jackpot!”
