In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements, and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!
Meet Woody, a mostly white with brown and black spots Shih Tzu born in March! Woody came into rescue from a puppy mill in Iowa with his littermate and five adult dogs. He is a very curious little guy that enjoys playing with sticks, shoes, and cables (which we of course divert his attention from) over toys. He enjoys running back and forth (and sometimes away from his foster parents), as well as playing tug of war. When he is up, he is up, and when he is asleep, he is out and snores now and then. He enjoys snuggling maybe once a day, but otherwise he is a busy little bee with his fellow furry friends in his foster home. He is a good sleeper in his playpen overnight and only makes noise when he has to go potty.
Speaking of going potty, Woody is working on letting his foster parents know he has to go potty. His foster parents take him out frequently to help with his potty training, but he also uses potty pads when needed. His new family must continue with his housetraining so that he consistently goes outdoors rather than relying on a pad. Woody eats three small meals a day but likes to snack on any leftovers he finds from the other dogs in the home. He is realizing that he can’t just eat everyone else’s food, or he gets growled at quite quickly.
He is a typical playful puppy and gets along quite well with his foster dog siblings. He would do well with another small playful dog who has similar young energy, or he could also be the only dog in the house. He tends to bark when the older foster dog siblings don’t want to pay attention to him, but he and his puppy litter mate play quite a bit. Puppies require a lot of training and attention, but he will be a great addition to any family that has the patience and desire to meet the needs of a puppy.
These are the requirements for Woody’s new family:
1. Because Woody is less than a year old, and will most likely live 16+ years, applications will only considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life.
2. Applications will be considered if children in the home are 10 years or older, and if they have had experience interacting with a young, small dog.
3. Woody will require training beyond just house training, so enrolling him and his new family in a puppy training class is strongly advised. His family must be committed to his continued training.
4. Must be home most of the day (not gone generally more than 3 hours).
5. A fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker. If there is no fenced yard, his family must be willing and able to take Woody on a couple of long walks every day (weather permitting).
6. Live within 60 miles of Saint Paul, Minnesota and agree to attend the annual rescue reunion held each year in September.
Woody is vetted, current on vaccinations, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $470.00 plus $40.07 sales tax. He has not yet been neutered, and his adopters must agree to have him neutered by the age of six months. A $150.00 neuter deposit is required at the time of adoption, which will be reimbursed when the adopters provide proof of the neuter. So the total fees due at adoption are $660.07.
To meet Woody, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. It is also required to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue monthly meet and greet the first Saturday of each month from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the Petco in Bloomington (off Penn in Southtown Center).
