My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Baxter! He`s a hilarious boy who can`t help but bring a smile to all of our faces. He`s an absolute goofball who is also incredibly sweet. One volunteer called him, `A sweet stout gentleman`. His favorite hobbies include: chasing tennis balls, requesting treats, being petted, and showing off his zoomies!

We have been told that he is:
High Energy
Good with Dogs
Good with Strangers

If you want this silly boy in your life, adopt him today! He`s waiting to meet his new owners, so we hope to see you soon. We are open M-F 8am-5pm (8am-7pm on Thursdays) and 10am-4pm on Saturdays. Baxter is available for adoption (all fees are waived for any adoption now through September 30th), fostering, or to be a partner for the Dog Adventures Program. Learn more about ways to get involved with him by visiting our website: https://www.burlingtonnc.gov/GetInvolved. Burlington Animal Services is at 221 Stone Quarry Rd, in Burlington, NC. Those interested in learning more about Baxter or any of our other pets or programs, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov.

Volunteer notes, 8/26/24:
Baxter is so sweet! He enjoyed pets and any treats available! He might steal a leaf or two along the trail! He did a great job and Ignored any dogs coming by on the trail. He did pull a little but slowed down to my paced in time. He knows sit and down commands. A sweet stout gentleman.

Volunteer notes, 6/26/24:
Baxter is high energy and loves to run. He will come when called. Affectionate.

Volunteer notes, 5/12/24:
Loved chasing then bringing back the tennis ball. Enjoyed a longer walk, curious to sights and sounds, but not pulling. Startled my movement in the woods, but recovered, no pulling to chase anything. Enjoyed being petted, sitting in the grass together

Volunteer notes, 5/7/24:
Today we learned that Baxter loves to chase balls, but his idea of playing fetch is to touch the ball with his nose and run back. He is sweet, friendly, goofy, and hilarious. He loves treats!

Things to know:

If you already know you want to proceed with adopting a specific pet, please email us at petadoption@burlingtonnc.gov and let us know you want to go ahead and adopt. You can still meet the pet before finalizing the adoption to make sure they are a great fit for you.

Pets are adopted on a first-come-first-served basis and may be adopted very quickly. You can see the current status of available pets on our website. Pets that are listed as "Available" are currently available for adoption. Those with a status of "Adoption Pending" or "Unavailable" already have been spoken for and are no longer available for adoption. The status of these pets will be updated back to "Available" if their original placement falls through. Our website automatically updates every hour and displays all pets at BAS Pet Adoption & Resource Center or foster.

Visitation and adoption of pets in foster must be scheduled directly with the foster volunteer since these pets are not at the Animal Services Center. Email fosterpets@burlingtonnc.gov to schedule a visit or adoption of a pet in foster care.

Stop by and visit pets at the Burlington Animal Services Pet Adoption and Resource Center six days a week:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m
Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Closed on Sundays and Holidays

Pets receive vaccines, testing, and preventatives appropriate for their species and age, as well as any necessary treatments. Dogs and cats are spayed or neutered. BAS adopters also receive exclusive discounts on food, veterinary care, training, and more through our partners. All this is included in the adoption!

Adoption fees are very low and are sometimes waived as part of regular adoption special events through out the year. To see our current adoption fees and specials, visit burlingtonnc.gov/visitBAS. Our goal is to ensure every pet has a positive outcome and gets to live life with a loving family.

To take home a pet, adopters or fosters only need to present a government-issued photo ID and be at least 18 years old. There is NO lengthy paperwork to fill out and NO intrusive or lengthy process. Most pets can go home the same day, and we provide resources and ongoing support to help you and the pet make a smooth transition!
