Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
STILL OVER CAPACITY and Esme is officially the main long-timer here. She was here before we were 501c3 official, and our 2nd dog intake ever back in 2021. She was adopted for ~6 months and returned back in March due to what I would say was no fault of her own as it was a very clearly stated potential issue that was warned about before adoption and reiterated after adoption when the situation in the home changed. The adoptees were still extremely upset about returning her, but decided they had to.... I can give more context but not going to type a book on her post. Long story short, it's been almost 3 years now, and she is still looking for her permanent furever home!
*special needs - tripaw*
Location: Lexington, SC
Name: Esme
Age: 3.5 years
Breed: Lab/pit/mix (DNA Tested) - 60 lbs but overweight and should only be around 50 lbs
M/F: F
Spayed/Neutered/Shots: spayed; UTD on rabies, dhlpp, & bordetella; heartworm negative and UTD on prevetion
Good with dogs, cats, and/or kids: good with all humans and has been around toddlers as well, good with dogs except severely alpha dogs (every incident so far has been with a female pit that came onto her - she defended herself and does it very well). Has been around 100’s of other dogs with no issues including dog parks and doggy daycares, she simply won’t tolerate being bullied or messed with. NOT good with cats (even my most dog friendly cats, she doesn’t try to hurt them, but she doesn’t understand her size and wants to play and is simply too much for them)
Aggression or medical issues?: TRIPAW (3 legs - missing rear right leg) and gets daily joint supplements to prevent arthrtitis. Does not affect daily life and most don’t notice she is missing a leg because she acts so “normal”. Only further assistance she needs is getting in/out high vehicles. Also can only swim in circles but does like water. For aggression, she will never start anything, but she will finish it so you must make sure the dogs she are with will not push buttons.
House/crate trained?: yes - needs to be crated when left alone
Additional info/story (personality):
VERY cuddly. Will stay close by without a leash once she learns area and homeowner when you take her outside. Will demand to be let back inside if you leave her out there too long cause she likes to be a lazy couch potato a good chunk of the time. Does snore. Does have a big and funny attitude and is very talkative. Super chewer and will need heavy duty toys. She will not chew on stuff she shouldn’t chew on unless she doesn’t have anything appropriate to chew on. She just loves chewing.
Message/comment if interested. Make sure if you message me to include the animal’s name since I have a lot of rescues I am trying to help rehome at the moment. Adoption application & contract required to ensure good home.
