My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Charcoal is a neutered black male cat, born in January 2022. He has recently had his right hind leg amputated. Charcoal was an outside stray cat who was fed by an elderly lady. He is loving and loyal. But when the lady died, Charcoal was left without a home and then he was shot in the leg. His leg could not be repaired. Charcoal is a special needs cat. He can get along well on his three legs and will do even better once he gets the hang of it. He can jump and climb. He would do best as an only cat. He has very nice manners in the house! He has a wonderful purr! The adoption fee is $25. This covers the cost of spay/neuter, PVR, Rabies, flea, tick, ear mite and worm treatment. To adopt, you need to first fill out an application. Go to:

We are located in Western North Carolina. Optional transport is weekly.  After your application is approved, we will contact you regarding cost and delivery if you so desire.

More about this rescue

Rutherford County Humane Society is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving Rutherford County since 1979, with the mission to significantly improve the lives of unwanted and neglected animals, and to measurably decrease this number through our spay and neuter programs, volunteer foster homes, and outreach and education. We are an independent organization that works in collaboration with other area animal advocacy groups. All of our efforts depend on our passionately compassionate volunteers, and financial support from the community. We have made the decision to use our resources to continue promoting the number one solution to our pet overpopulation problem - and that is spay/neuter. Our mailing address is still PO Box 998, Rutherfordton, NC 28139. Our website (http://rutherfordcountyhumanesociety.org) is always current, and you can contact us through the web. You will receive a prompt reply. We have adoptable pets posted on the site. If you need to find a home for a pet, you may contact us to have your pet posted on our website. We also post on Petfinder.com and Adopt-a-Pet.com.
