Buddy needs help fast, his issues at the shelter are for being a #BelgianMalinois trapped in a kennel. If you or someone you know can help please contact the shelter at 562.570.3080 or AnimalRescue@longbeach.gov
Buddy is a fairly easy going #BelgianMalinois that arrived as a stray on 3/15 after reportedly being loose in the area for several days. Considering Buddy arrived with a registered microchip it's clear he is missing one very important 'buddy'... his owner 😐
Buddy's stray hold expired on 3/25 and became available for adoption or rescue after his neuter surgery. Around the same time Buddy was displaying increased stress & anxiety in his kennel, along with more impulsive behavior when out of kennel (in typical Malinois fashion). In addition to his new hobby of grabbing random large & heavy objects while on walks, he recently bit a staff member on the buttocks when they were placing keys & lanyard in their back pocket (D'oh). Luckily for everyone no skin was broken in the process (phew).
Buddy has a prior bite on record from 2020 during a home invasion robbery, doing what dogs are expected to do & biting a burglar. BUT with the shelter taking into account the prior provoked bite, along with the recent bite attempt and insane amount of stress being taxed on him in a kennel, it's clear Buddy needs to be somebody's new 'buddy' ASAP through adoption or rescue.
Buddy lived with another dog at his prior address (where that dog is remains a mystery), and has been very friendly and comfortable with other dogs. Currently he is remaining relaxed & stable while kenneled at the shelter, hopefully he can find a more responsible owner through adoption or rescue before kennel life gets the best of him since he's a Malinois.

ADOPTION POLICY
The adoption process at OC Shelter Pets is relatively simple. We require an application and a home visit by one of our dedicated OC Shelter Pets volunteers. Once your application and home visit is reviewed by our Board, you will be notified in writing of our decision.
REVIEW OF APPLICATION
The team at OC Shelter Pets reviews all adoption and foster applications and if approved will notify you and reach out to you over the phone to discuss potential dogs that will fit the needs of your home as well as our adoption fees. Please note that all adoption fees go towards the care of our rescued animals, all animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted and current on all vaccines.
HOME VISIT
We need all family members available for the home visit for any potential adopters or fosters. This gives us a chance to talk about rescue, learn about your lifestyle and your expectations for your rescued animal. If you have existing pets, this gives us an opportunity to meet them as well. We will also check the home to ensure it is safe for the animal, we will check the backyard area, gates, fences and screen doors (if applicable).
THE PERFECT FIT
Upon approval, we will start reaching out to our foster homes and describe your situation and what dog we believe will best fit your home. We will also look within the dogs at OC Shelter Pets Headquarters and determine who best fits your home dynamics. We will then coordinate a time for you to meet the dog. Please be patient as this is an "adoption process" and we want to ensure that our dogs are successful in their forever homes.
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
OC Shelter Pets will take back any animal that is adopted out, per the adoption agreement - the animal will automatically be taken back into rescue and the adopter will be in violation of the agreement if the animal is taken to a shelter or given away.
