Cooper is a very sweet, playful and handsome 1–2-year-old Catahoula mix. He was rescued by the Humane Society of the United States from southern Louisiana where the first months of his life were spent neglected and caged with dozens of other dogs. While he remains shy, especially with new people and experiences, he has now learned that the world can be full of fun and love and has begun to give it back in full. Although he is being fostered on a farm with endless acres of forest to roam, he never goes far, preferring to be close to his people and is a perfect companion. He loves to run fast around the yard, play keep away, and is becoming very good at fetch. He loves chew toys, and in the absence of having something he is allowed to chew on, may find shoes and hats tempting toys when left alone. But he’s a quick study and intelligent – when he was first rescued, he was not house trained, knew no commands, and had no idea how to use stairs. Within only 48 hours, he was perfectly house trained (not a single accident since), mastered stairs, and was on his way to learning simple commands.
Cooper is fostered with another dog and loves to play with his dog friends. He would do well with other dogs, and has shown little prey drive. He gets along with the resident chickens and has ignored the neighbor’s cat. He has played well with neighborhood children but has not lived with children so is still largely untested in a domestic situation with kids. He needs a yard to get his daily running and playing in, but does not have the same endless energy as some Catahoula’s and hounds. Most of his day is spent contently lounging around on the couch. It takes him a while to trust new people, but once you’re in the circle of trust, he loves belly rubs and scratches, and will gently paw at your arm should you dare stop. He will make an excellent companion for his forever family.

CRNE Adoption Application:

Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family.
If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered.
Cooper’s adoption donation is $450 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test, is on preventative, microchip and neuter depending on age at time of adoption. If the dog is too young for a spay/neuter, then they will be adopted with a spay/neuter contract and deposit. We do not have a physical shelter; all our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada.
