Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Please visit leiashope.org for our adoption process.
Location: Decatur, IL
Willy Wonka (aka Willy) is a young puppy believed to be about 5 months old. He came from a puppy mill where he did not get a lot of human socialization.
Willy can be a little shy at first, but give him some time and he is sweet little cuddler. One way that helped Willy trust his foster mom is by sleeping with her each night. He use to sleep as far away as he could, but now he excitedly gets in the bed and immediately comes up to foster mom for night time cuddles.
Willy likes to play with other dogs but does get a little protective of high value treats (like a meaty bone) and he gets these items in his crate. He enjoys running after the other dogs in the house in the yard or playing tug with a toy. He is very good for baths and brushing. Willy is nervous around toddlers and small children. He would do best with children 6+. He would like a playmate, another young playful dog or older children is preferred.
Willy's coat is soft waves and will need brushed once a week and seen by a groomer about every 6-8 weeks.
Willy's adoption is $500. He is current on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped and on monthly flea and heart worm prevention. He is not neutered as we wait until 6 months. A neuter contract is required and we will pay for that neuter if using our vet. Visit leiashope.org for next steps!
PLEASE NOTE: We are a volunteer ran rescue with full time jobs. Please allow 7-10 days for application processing.
All of our dogs are in foster homes and a meet and greet is done ONLY after an approved application.
We do adopt out of the area. However, we do not ship or provide transportation. You must come to the location of the dog to meet and adopt. NO EXCEPTION. All family members and dogs must be present at the meet.
Dogs are a commitment for THEIR lifetime. For puppies this could be 15 years. If YOU cannot commit to the lifetime of the DOG, please do not apply. Puppies under 9 months must go to a home where there is someone home frequently (works from home or a partner is home), can adequately socialize and train the puppy, and can keep up with puppy energy!
