The adoption fee is waived for George and ALL Desperate Housecats!

Stinkin’ adorable George has been through a lot, and has come through it all like a champ! When he arrived at AAC, he had spinal trauma and a mouth injury. He also caught a kitty cold and ringworm. He still has ringworm, but it`s very minimal, and should be cleared up soon.

Now living in a foster home, George tends to run if you try to pet him, and can get freaked out if you try to restrain him (probably because he tolerated so many treatments), but he will come to you occasionally for a snuggle. At bedtime he loves to cuddle up, often sleeping between his foster parents.

George adores other cats, wrestling and playing chase with them. He will do best in a home with at least one other cat to be his buddy.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
