Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Buttercup!
Buttercup was born on July 22, 2023. She is a boxer mix, about 40lbs and is guessed to weigh 45-50lbs fully grown. She is narrow and small for a boxer mix. Her mom is a full boxer, and we are unsure about dad. She is fostered in Dunkirk, MD.
Buttercup loves everyone she meets and is very friendly. She absolutely loves to give kisses and to receive pets. She doesn't mind getting hugs, squeezes, kisses, and rubs. In fact, she enjoys all of them! We call her "bear," because that's what it feels like hugging her.
Buttercup is all joy and bounciness! She wants to stay close to her people all the time, and she will find a way to either be on your lap or lying down against your leg, foot, or arm. She always makes sure someone is nearby and nothing makes her happier than to chill right next to you.
Buttercup learned to "sit" in 5 minutes. So much training potential! She is a smart cookie, who loves to learn new tricks. She has started to understand “outside,” “breakfast,” “dinner,” treat,” “walk,” "stay," and “no.” She will benefit greatly from obedience training.
Buttercup is an active dog, and she needs to burn that energy throughout the day. She can jump very high. A fenced yard would be great for her, as she loves to run around and chase the birds! Otherwise, someone who has the time and energy to provide the exercise that she needs would work well too.
She can entertain herself for a while with a ball, frisbee, and other toys. She is also walked on a leash most days, and she enjoys exploring the smells and bugs out in the world. We are still working on leash skills, but she already walks fairly well. She would make a great running, hiking, and perhaps even swimming partner!
Buttercup is great with other dogs, as she is not reactive and loves interacting with them. She will do best with a dog that matches her energy level. She loves wrestling and doing zoomies with other dogs, and she can get mouthy when excited (not aggressive). We are working with her on this, and she is already much better. She will play, play, play, and then nap for hours. Tough life!
Buttercup is currently fostered with children between 5-8 years old, and she is very friendly with them. She has an affectionate personality, but she can be rough when too excited (not aggressive). We are working on training her out of this, and we are already seeing positive results. It is important to keep her excitement down.
Buttercup has not shown any interest in chewing shoes or furniture. She loves her chew toys and is perfectly happy with a bone or another toy. She is also food-motivated and loves her meals and treats. She hasn’t shown any signs of food-aggression, and she is very gentle when getting a treat from our hands.
Buttercup sleeps through the night and shares the bed with the foster family. She doesn't love her crate but tolerates it when needed. She is still working on house manners and potty-training. She is doing well on both, as she is very eager to please.
This friendly and funny pooch is your new best friend! Her loyalty will have you feeling loved and cared for each and every day.
