My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Vaquero is Spanish for “cowboy”, and this little buckaroo is ready to ride out of the shelter with you today! He’s young, energetic, and all the things a cattle dog should be- smart, athletic, and focused! He’d like to leave the PACC behind for a life of adventure with you, and he promises to be the best sidekick ever. If you can give Vaquero a bit of training and a job to do, he’ll git ‘er done! Here’s what his volunteer friends have said:

“Vaquero is a good walker- he loves sniffing, has a nice sit, and takes treats gently. Very friendly and well behaved. Sweet little fella.”

“Vaquero is a perky little partner who was so happy to go on his walk. When I sat down to introduce myself, he bounced right over to give me kisses on my chin- he was really snuggly and affectionate. He loves being scratched under his chin and along his neck. A little superstar of a dog!”

“First time walking Vaquero. He was eager to get going and we had a great walk through the desert, where he explored all the interesting scents. He would check in regularly with good eye contact. He noted the presence of other dogs, people, and bicycles, but was otherwise non-reactive. We stopped a couple times for treats, which he took from my hand with a gentle mouth. Vaquero is an outstanding companion away from the shelter- he shouldn’t be judged by his in-kennel presence.”

“Vaquero is such a pleasure to be with, both on walks and in the play yard. He’s very friendly and approachable when people come in to meet him. Today I took him for a short ride in the car. He wouldn’t jump in, but after I lifted him in, seemed to enjoy the ride. He is gaining confidence and settling into life in a shelter.”

Vaquero has shared his kennel and has been playful, social, and easygoing when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He loves people more than anything, so mostly hung out with the handlers in the yard. Vaquero would like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it’s a good fit, and breed experience is always a plus with cattle dogs! Saddle up and ask about Vaquero today!
