My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

From her current foster Family:
`Chrissy is the biggest cuddle bug! She loves to cuddle with humans and dogs alike. She has an average amount of energy, and really will match the energy level of the dogs/ humans she`s paired with. She`s good with having a lazy day or a busy long walk/ hike kind of day. She`s currently living with puppies and older dogs and transitions well btwn chasing puppies to napping around the house with ease. Chrissy does well with both male and female dogs and dogs of all sizes! She sleeps in a crate at night, and needs to be crated when we leave the house. She has some separation anxiety that I think will get better with time, so in the meantime we leave her crated with an enrichment toy while we`re out of the house.

She`s house trained, and uses a dog door well. I don`t think Chrissy requires a yard, so may do well in an apartment. She is very strong, but also very easily redirected! She`s been easy to train. She has quickly figured out people`s food is not for her, and she will listen to `leave it` or follow directions to sit in a dog bed with a toy quietly while we finish eating.

Chrissy is such a sweet and smart girl and would be a great fit for another doggo looking for a sister or a single dog house hold with someone that likes to stay active and be out and about.`

Hi human friends. Woof woof, I am Chrissy! I had pneumonia which kept me away from my volunteer friends for a few weeks while I recovered, but I am so happy to be back to seeing them every day! I am healthy, up to date on my shots, and finally ready to find my forever home!

I love walks! Will you take me on some? I get so excited when it’s time to go outside and explore the world. My volunteer friends describe me as, “sweet, easy and an excellent calm and loose leash walker.” I get along with other doggies, so if you want to add me to the family as a sister to your resident dog let’s set up a doggy meet and greet at AAC to make sure we get along! I can sit on command for a tasty treat, too!

I have this little floppy prance when I get really excited on walks or sniff something new. I am dreaming of all the adventures we will go on and memories we will make. I hope you will consider adding me to your family.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
