My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

October Oreo is a 7 years young charming lady who wants nothing more than to be the special kitty in your life. She's a chatty girl and loves to have conversations with her foster mom about her daily adventures. She also looks just like a tiny kitten.

October Oreo is also a major cuddler, wanting to cozy up with you everyday. She is a super affectionate kitty and has so much love to give! She is the biggest love bug. She sleeps with her foster every single day, making unlimited biscuits and giving kisses. She is really the perfect girl. She is very playful as well.

Although she is a loving kitty, she would prefer to be the only feline friend in your life.

October Oreo has CH (Cerebellar Hypoplasia) which causes her to wobble and have uncoordinated motion. CH is a congenital neurological disorder that is neither painful, progressive, nor contagious. The condition does not require any additional medical care nor does it effect the cat's lifespan. Rugs or carpeting are recommended to help the cat get around but October Oreo is still able to use the litter box, play, and climb just like any other cat! She's just a bit wobbly is all! Please feel free to email us if you have any further questions about the condition.

This cat is FIV+ and will live a normal healthy and long life when provided with quality care such as a balanced diet and yearly wellness exams (like any cat). As FIV+ is not transmittable between neutered/spayed cats under normal circumstances, we are happy for FIV+ cats to mingle with FIV- cats in their adoptive homes.

This is a courtesy listing, meaning the cat(s) are being offered for adoption by a rescuer, rescue group, or individual unaffiliated with the Brooklyn Cat Cafe or Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition. As BBAWC has not evaluated the animal(s) we therefore cannot provide information on health or temperament. After we receive an application, we will connect you with the current caretaker of this cat.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
