My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dalton came to us about a year ago as a tiny barely 4 week old baby that had been dumped out near a business and was found hiding under a dumpster. We immediately put him into an incubator and worked hard to get him stabilized.

Fast forward to today and we have a VERY unique looking adult, male, lop eared/ lionhead! (That's a pretty rare combo with the ears and the mane, it seems.) AND he's got a pretty unique salt and pepper coloration, making him VERY striking in appearance. If you don't want a 'run of the mill' looking rabbit, this might be your bunny! Dalton has had A LOT of interest but hasn't yet found his home, so we are listing him in the hopes that his future family will see him and fall in love!

He is a very relaxed bunny....we often find him on his side and actually caught him lying ON HIS BACK recently with all 4 feet in the air! (Again....NOT a normal thing for a bunny....he is unique in so many ways that it's hard to keep track of it all! Lol!)

He isn't used to being picked up and held but doesn't object once he gets past the 'pick up' part. We do need to groom him regularly (and you will also) because he is prone to matting in all that lion's mane around his neck. He also has a bit of a fringe 'skirt' around the edges that needs to be snipped off, every so often....not bad, VERY easy to do. He is used to being groomed, which is a wonderful bunny/caretaker activity for bonding and just spending time with your bunny. (Personally, I LOVE grooming bunnies....so relaxing....)

For a little while, we thought Dalton was a girl (we called 'her' Dahlia!). He hid his bits quite well! We needed the vet to help us with this one! Lol! So, I am including a photo of him wearing a bow to keep some of that hair out of his eyes! (He would have made a darling little girl bunny.....except for the hidden 'bits'! Lol!)

He still wouldn't mind being someone's 'foofoo bunny' if that's what you are looking for! But he has grown up a bit so he might be a bit heavy to ride around in a pet purse! Lol!

Go meet their pets

Potential adopters can meet our adoptable bunnies after they have completed the steps in the adoption process and their adoption application has been approved. Since we are a foster based rescue, meeting bunnies is by appointment only. We do attend some events with our bunnies. We post upcoming events on our Facebook page www.Facebook.com/waywardrabbitssc

More about this rescue

We are a rescue for HIGH RISK rabbits. Most have been confiscated by animal control or from other life and death situations. Our bunnies were forgotten, neglected, or worse. These bunnies have been through some nightmare situations.

Adoption includes:
* spay or neuter
* RHDV vaccination
* emotional issues addressed during foster
* vet and health care given during foster as needed
* good bunny behaviors and socialization addressed during foster

Our bunnies have emerging personalities that can be both fun and frustrating as you go along. They may make mistakes, just as we all do. They are not perfect. But we have worked hard to give you the best possible bunny companion that we can.

We ask you to consider providing the happy ending to their stories by adding one of our companion rabbits to your life. If you are interested in applying for adoption or in applying to become a foster with us, please contact us for more information.

PLEASE NOTE that due to the volume of rabbits coming in directly from animal control, WR is NOT able to take in owner surrenders. We WILL try our best to help you through whatever issues you are having so that you can keep your rabbit as a beloved companion pet. DO contact us for advice!
