My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Jorah! We guess him to be a Mountain Cur or Plott Hound mix. He is another one of our Forget-Me-Nots. He was abandoned on farmland with his sister, so when the farmer was able to catch them both, they were brought to us. Both were in pretty rough shape, but with proper care their coats filled in nicely. It takes a bit of time for Jorah to trust strangers, but then, he loves everyone. He likes the company of other dogs! He seems more secure when he isn't the only one. In his time with us, Jorah has actually gotten really close with another long-timer, named Ray. They go out in play group together and do really well! Jorah was adopted once, but was returned when he couldn't handle being alone much of the time. He was described as too clingy. We think that if he had another dog around, he'd be happier. He really is a sweet guy and loves attention and affection. He just needs the opportunity to bond. Also, Jorah is very trainable and knows some commands. If you are interested in adopting Jorah, please stop for a visit!

More about this shelter

Dogwood Animal Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill shelter.

Since its infancy, compassionate, like-minded volunteers have been the driving force behind Dogwood Animal Shelter. Through auctions and sales, a handful of dedicated people raised enough money to build its first, albeit small facility and was established as a 501(c) 3 in 1976. It was filled beyond capacity almost immediately.

The shelter is funded entirely from donations and proceeds from their Dogwood Animal Shelter Thrift Store.

After years of saving, planning and busting at the seams with fur-babies, in 2005 it was time to build a new facility with their own in-house clinic! Under the direction of Dr. John Reinhold and coupled with a very dedicated and gifted team of Veterinarians and staff, Dogwood Animal Shelter continues to offer low cost spays and neuters to the public as well as services to their shelter buddies; services to approximately 2,000 dogs and cats yearly!

Dogwood Animal Shelter began their journey of being a successful no-kill shelter in 1997, and since then has saved over 40,000 lives!
