My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, I'm Basil. I've been told I'm quite the charmer, with my gentle and mellow demeanor. I'm not your typical cat, I'm a senior, wise and experienced. My intelligence is one of my best features, and I pride myself on my independent spirit. I'm the kind of companion who's content with a quiet afternoon, just enjoying each other's company. I'm loyal, too. Once we've bonded, you'll have a friend for life. Adopting me means gaining a loyal, loving companion who will enrich your life with wisdom and affection. I'm ready to share my golden years with someone who appreciates the value of a mature, loving soul.

More about this shelter

Founded in 1971 as the Animal Aid Society of Englewood, Suncoast Humane Society began with a few cages where people left stray animals to be cared for. Over the years, our service area has grown to include over 400 square miles, covering three counties: Sarasota, Charlotte and portions of Lee.
Suncoast Humane Society provides a safe refuge for thousands of lost, abandoned and abused animals from our service area each year. We are committed to our open-door policy of never turning any animal away, regardless of health, temperament, breed or circumstances.
