My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Intake Date: 23 February 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 2 yrs ----- Breed: Chihuahua ----- Size: 5 lbs ----- Status: Pound Pull/Unclaimed ----- Compatible with: older children, cats, dogs with proper intros. ----- Suitable for: home with fenced yard, leash always ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: Was Extremely fear Aggressive but a doll now! ----- Additional Notes: Welcome Capone. Named so for a reason. We did not have a lot of good things to say for this dude when he first came to rescue besides that he was worth the effort. He was found astray and was untouchable at the pound. In nearly 20 years of rehabilitation, he was our worse case by far. He viciously bit and if he was any larger, would cause significant injury. We are figuring fear aggression with a combination of conditioning. We think he was exposed to some violance and biting or charging and biting caused people to back off, therefore conditioning him to that behavior to stay safe. We couldn't approach him at all without being attacked and he has bitten with enough force to bite through bite gloves and cause injury. With several weeks of work, training, boundary setting, and correction, We have earned his trust and he has accepted our boundaries and thrived with a routine! He has even met people at rescue and crawled in their laps. He does have small dog syndrome when meeting new dogs but exercises with the other dogs in his small dog play group just fine! We can do anything with Capone. Play with him, carry him, correct him, cuddle him, rough house with him, dress him up, you name it, he lets us. We are besties now! An adoptive owner needs to not coddle him, he thrives, like most dogs, on knowing acceptable behavior and having boundaries. He is such a cool little mighty mouse! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption is finalized at that time. Adoption fee is $175 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are not guaranteed but often a best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. If a yard is present, a secure fence is prioritized.
