Ophelia is a very special dog here at Rosebud Rescue and has been with us for over a year while we worked with her, and she is finally ready to find her perfect forever home. Ophelia is 100% deaf and because of this will ONLY be available on a foster-to-adopt basis for a minimum of 3 months to ensure it is the perfect fit.
Ophelia is around 3.5 years old and just under 50lbs. She can be a tiny bit shy at first but will smother you in kisses in no time! She loves attention, toys, and playing with other dogs, but will mirror them and match their energy level. She is incredibly smart and knows several hand signals for training commands, and really loves it when you find ways to communicate with her! She is trained to report to you with the flash of a light, so recall from the yard or other side of the room is a breeze. She cannot live with cats or uncaged small animals due to her prey drive. She is crate trained but can be a bit vocal and would rather be confined to a room when left, though she doesn't have a tendency to get into things she shouldn't have.
Ophelia has a history of getting overstimulated in new situations, which turned into anxious energy and an unfocused dog. She was recently started on generic Prozac and it has really helped to manage this. It is affordable and easy to administer, a potential adopter would need to keep her on this medication. While adventures outside of the house are still a work in progress, she has made a lot of improvement over the last 2 months or so! She does walk on a gentle leader, but is a VERY strong dog so someone who can handle her weight while out and about and continue working on loose leash walking is a must.
We know little about Ophelia's past other than it appears she had many litters of puppies in her short life before she got to us. It is unknown if her missing ear was due to an injury or a failed crop job. She will cower if you move too fast or pick up an object, leading us to believe she wasn't treated very well. She was passed around to a few different owners before she ended up with us after seeing a plea from a good samaritan who took her in but could not keep her long term after seeing her posted on Craigslist for rehoming, with the reason that they couldn't call her in from the yard!
Ophelia is looking for a home without young children due to her size and energy level. NO CATS. A fully fenced yard is required, and she thrives in the company of dogs so there must be at least another resident dog in the home. If a very special adopter with no dogs is ready for 2, she has plenty of adoptable friends here as well!
Ophelia is accepting applications and is currently available for meet and greets with approved adopters! If you’re interested in adopting her or getting pre-approved for our other dogs, please fill out the adoption application at www.RosebudRescue.com/adopt

Additional adoption info
We will first look over your application and decide if you are a good fit for the dog in question. If we feel that dog is not right for you but have another we would recommend, we will reach out to you. If an application is missing ANY information, or if we feel anything indicated on the application does not align with the care we want our dogs to have, you will be denied.
The next step will be to reach out to your references. Please give them a heads up! You must call your vet and giving them permission to release information about current and past pets in your home to Rosebud Rescue and our volunteers. We will inquire with your vet about the care of current and past animals in your home and their vaccination status, spay/neuter status, monthly preventatives, etc. If renting, we must get confirmation from your landlord that you are able to adopt a dog. Please understand that reaching out to your references is time consuming, and we will only call once. If we are unable to get sufficient information from the references provided in a timely manner, we will not be able to approve your application.
Once fully approved, a representative will get in touch with you to schedule a meet and greet. The first meet and greet will be with human family members at our rescue or the dogs foster home. If there are other pets in your home we will do a slow and proper introduction at the home check.
Our adoption process is slow, well thought out, and in the best interest of our dogs and their adopters. In an effort to not rush things, we place a pending adoption status on our dogs after a meet and greet is scheduled. After the initial meet and greet, you will have 1 week to follow up with us on your decision before the dog is made available for adoption.

More about this rescue
Rosebud Rescue Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization in West Falls, NY specializing in herding breed dogs. Our goal is to rehabilitate and rehome to owners who understand the needs of a high energy working dog, and to offer permanent sanctuary and safe management for those who have been deemed unadoptable to the general public.
While we'll do our best to help any dog in need, our focus is primarily on herding breeds. These breeds are often misunderstood due to their drive, energy level, and instincts. Our goal is to provide our adopters with the education and tools to live healthy, fulfilling lives with these incredibly smart and loyal dogs!
Another area of focus for us are dogs with disabilities, behavioral issues, or medical issues. These dogs often require some extra attention and care in one way or another and we pride ourselves on taking the time to work with them to not only make their quality of life the best it can be, but to also help our adopters maintain that care after welcoming their new 4-legged family member.
