Meet Eliza! This beautiful speckled girl has quickly made herself a staff and volunteer favorite by showing off both her loving personality and her hilarious antics. She also gives awesome hugs! Eliza loves getting lots of pets, taking long, slow walks, and snacking on stuffed Kongs. Every time she comes back from a walk, she insists on greeting everyone she passes to make sure they're all getting a healthy dose of puppy kisses. She's lived well with other dogs before, and enjoys playtime with her canine friends here at the shelter. At eight months old, she's still getting used to the world around her, and sometimes new things will seem scary! But with a little support and a couple of treats, she's made it through every challenge she's faced. If you're finding yourself in need of some pure puppy love, come see Eliza today for a pick-me-up!

You’ll meet an Adoption Counselor to go over applications and discuss the animal you’re considering. We work with you to ensure your family, home and new family member is a perfect fit.
2. We’ll review all the documents and permissions (support from other adults in home, landlord permission and home ownership verification).
3. If your adoption is approved, your new pet can go home with you the same day providing they have had their spay/neuter surgery. If they haven't had their surgery yet, we will let you know when their surgery is scheduled and you can usually pick them up the next day.

For 133 years, the Capital Area Humane Society has been sheltering homeless animals, fighting animal cruelty and neglect, and offering programs to address the needs of animals in our community. More than 92 percent of our funding is provided by donations and fees for services. We are not a government agency, and we do not receive general operating support from national organizations. The Capital Area Humane Society relies on the support of private donors and volunteers to make our work possible.
Since 1883 the Capital Area Humane Society has been dedicated to providing only the highest quality of care for everyone we serve, animals and people alike. We are a team of experts—skilled, caring and compassionate people dedicated to our mission of fighting animal cruelty, helping animals in need and advocating for their well-being.
Our Mission

Our Vision
All animals live free of suffering and all companion animals are valued members of loving and caring families.
