Thor von Topen is a gorgeous 2-year-old German Shepherd. This sweet boy is still learning his way around the rescue life, and a few minutes spent getting to know him are worth the incredible reward of his trust and affection. Like every good man, the first path to his heart is his stomach. Thor will happily sit on command and accept treats, and he’ll come out of his shell once he sees that golden reward in your hand. While he may be shy at first, you’ll quickly be rewarded with a wagging tail and the biggest smile we’ve ever seen on a dog. When walking, he’ll settle in after a few minutes and follow your lead – he’s calm and knows to stay by your side along the way. He seems to be housebroken. Thor is an absolute pro in his playgroup – he loves playing with the other dogs in the yard, and he’s the perfect combination of social and respectful. He makes new friends like he’s the mayor of Dog Town – all pups are welcome, as far as he’s concerned! Thor would love to be the mayor of his own family – if you have room in your home and heart for this sweet boy, he would be happy to make your acquaintance.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.

In order to adopt any dog from Westside German Shepherd Rescue, one must fill out an adoption application first. Upon receipt of your application, a Westside adoption counselor will contact you.We do aerial home checks and you may be asked to supply pictures as well as arranging for a home visit prior to adoption.
Adoption fees vary with each dog and typically range from $150 to $500. They are set, taking into account the dog's age, training level, temperament, if they’re newly arrived, medical condition(s) (if any) and other factors. Adoption fees are used not only to rescue and place the dog you are personally adopting, but to aid in the future rescue and rehabilitation of other deserving dogs. Adoption fees are necessary; without fees, our rescue efforts would quickly come to an end. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, and up-to-date vaccinations.
