My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the remarkable Miss Sapphire, a gem among dogs with her unique mixed breed charm, blending the resilience of a Medium mix with the intelligence and energy of an Australian Cattle Dog, also known as a Blue Heeler. Sapphire's journey from wandering stray to a nurturing mother happened under our watchful care, ensuring her pups came into the world in warmth and safety. Now that her puppies are weaned, Sapphire is ready to embark on a new chapter in her life, seeking a forever home where she can be cherished and pampered as she so deserves. Sapphire's demeanor is one of gentle affection, marked by a timidity that endears her to all who meet her. We believe her perfect match would be a serene household, where patience and gentle encouragement help her to flourish and reveal her full potential. If you're looking for a loyal companion to fill your days with subtle joy and unwavering companionship, Miss Sapphire may just be the treasure you've been searching for. She will need a secure yard.

More about this shelter

Concern over a large, and ever increasing, population of homeless dogs and cats, instigated the opening of the Monroe County Animal Shelter.
A not-for-profit organization, Monroe County Friends of Animals help the shelter by providing volunteers, fundraising events, grant writing and more. There is always a need for more volunteers. With a small budget, donations are a welcome necessity. We have developed educational programs to promote spay/neuter and humane care of all animals.
