Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Available for Adoption! 💜
Mercedes got pulled from a shelter almost a month ago where she was at risk due to overcrowding, and everyone involved in getting her out of the shelter, couldn’t be happier she received this second chance!
⭐️The shelter has offered 6 sessions with their behaviorist in the Niagara Region, once adopted!
Name: Mercedes
Location of dog: Fostered in Niagara, Ontario
Breed: Bully mix
Weight: Approx 57lbs
Gender: Female
Spayed/Neutered: yes
Age: 1-2 years old
Energy Level: Med. She is very playful and energetic outside but settles nicely in her kennel.
Medical (shots etc.): UTD on Bordetella, DA2PP and tic and flea medication. Rabies to be administered at time of spay
Microchipped: yes
Good with dogs: yes! She loves to play! She currently is housed with two females and one male dog. We are unsure about little dogs.
Good with cats: yes, fostered with two cats
Good with kids: unknown, would not recommend a placement with young children due to her level of fear with new people/fast movements, etc.
Good with strangers: Mercedes can take time to warm up to new people. It is clear she was very under socialized and she will bark at strangers, retreat, and tuck her tail. She needs a lot of patience and someone who will not force themselves on her. Once she knows you are safe she is a very sweet, playful girl.
Guarding Issues: None noted
House Trained: yes
Crate Trained: yes
Destructive: Will chew on things if left alone for long periods, is left with her Kong or Nylabone
Leash skills: Mercedes has not had much leash training and it shows in her lack of leash manners! She is a puller and needs someone willing to work on this with her so that walks can become enjoyable for everyone. Her foster takes her out on walks daily and she has been working on her pulling and making great progress!
Okay with manipulations: Only with her trusted people
Known commands: sit, down, paw, wait
Behaviour Issues: Mercedes is very fearful of strangers at first. She needs someone who is very patient and will advocate for her when meeting new people. Proper introductions in the home and not allowing strangers to greet her in public, etc.
Medical issues: None noted
Other Observations:
From Shelter: Mercedes is truly such a special and sweet girl. She was found as a stray and never claimed. When she first came to shelter, she was terrified of everyone and everything. With patience, routine, and structure she has started to show her silly and playful side and continues to come out of her shell day by day. She absolutely loves liver treats, they are definitely the key to her heart- her being food motivated makes it easier to gain her trust and of course will aid in any training needed! She gets the cutest zoomies when playing outside with the other dogs. It is likely another dog would be beneficial for her as she really seems to love them and they help her come out of her shell. It is clear that Mercedes has had a rough start to life, she desperately wants to trust and relate to her people, she just needs someone who can provide her with the patience she needs to get there!
From Foster: Since Mercedes has been in her foster home she has really come out of her shell! She is still nervous with new people but when she is with her foster mom, whom she trusts and is reassured the stranger is okay she warms up to them quickly. She truly is a sweet lovable goofball. She loves to play with her toys but also loves to snuggle up with her foster mom. Mercedes goes out in public with her foster mom regularly to gain confidence and expose to new people and things. She is very dedicated to her person, and once she trusts you she will follow you everywhere you go!
