My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hairy has been a great addition to my home. He is gentle and shy at first, but he came out of his shell within the first few days. He is a natural explorer and will want to investigate every last corner of his home, but he will tend to spend most of his time within an arm’s reach anyway. He is very curious and will love to watch you as you perform your favorite hobbies at home.

Hairy’s love languages are words of affirmation and quality time. He likes to talk all throughout the day to give updates on where he is and what he’s doing. He loves having full conversations from across the apartment and can be your newest confidant. While not a natural cuddler, Hairy may just need time to settle in to be his full affectionate self. He loves to be pet and scratched, you may just need to listen closely to hear his purring.

Hairy might seem a little defensive at first, but he is truly just a scaredy cat at heart. He tends to hiss at new people and toys, but has yet to hurt a fly. After a few days of warming up, he will want to play with snake or mouse toys to stay entertained throughout the day.

Hairy was rescued with dental issues and is in need of surgery. In lieu of an adoption fee, we would be thrilled for a potential adopter to for a larger adoption donation and/or assistance crowdsourcing funds towards their necessary vet bills if possible.

This cat can be adopted as a single cat or with a calm companion.

More about this rescue

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home.

For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals.

Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.
