Home Check
YCMAD has two non-negotiable requirements to be considered as a candidate for the adoption of any of our rescues: the presence of a fenced-in yard (no electric fences) and the completion of a home visit. Our adoption process includes (3) steps: First, you complete and submit the Pre-Adoption questionnaire available at this link: Pre-Adoption Application Form (jotform.com). completion of this questionnaire does not indicate you will be granted the adoption. (2) We evaluate your application and inform you of our decision; either (a) we ask for a time and date that is convenient to complete a home visit at which time you will meet the animal of your choice or we will provide you with the rationale as to why we believe this animal may not be a good fit for your home, (3) We travel up to 1 hour from our location to bring the pet to your home which allows you to see him/her in a secure environment without external distractions. It also allows us to observe the environment where the dog/cat will live and ensure that it provides all the required security to prevent as much as possible any accident. Given the extraordinary circumstances our country is experiencing, we have also instituted what we call "virtual home visits.” We complete home visits on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 pm and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am or 3 to 4 pm. Other times and days may also be available depending on our work schedule. Please let us know which one is more convenient for you. We will bring the animal in question to the home visit. We will complete the adoption if it appears to be a good fit.
Residents of Panama City, Panama City Beach, or any adjacent areas, please know that we will only travel to complete a home visit if we have (2) potential adopters in your area. Unfortunately, you are in CST, and we are traveling from EST, which means that it becomes a day trip to complete a home visit; for efficiency purposes and to decrease our traveling expenses, we have had to establish this rule. We are sorry! In these cases, we adhere to completing a “virtual home visit.”
Again, thanks for your interest in one of our adoptable furry babies. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 850-792-2152; this is my direct line, and if I happen to be busy, your call, on average, will be returned within 2 hours. It is our mission to be the voice for the voiceless. Each dog, cat, or horse we adopt has been promised a second chance for happiness and security. We take this promise very seriously.
Bear is a TerrierPoo, about 2 years old, who is searching for his "person". He is initially shy, and will require a person willing to meet him at his current emotional state and work to gain his trust. Once he trust his human he is able to display affection, loves to sit close to them and interacts appropriately. He is a jewel in progress.
