Cap (originally Cap'n - Captain), is 10-12yo, weighs 65lbs, is spayed, is up to date on her vaccines, and is microchipped. She knows 'sit', 'stay', and 'go out'; she dislikes nail trims/touching her paws, thunder, fireworks and vacuums; also, she does well during car ridees. Cap's guardian adds: "Cap is a very sweet, loyal dog but she is just not good with little children. It breaks our hearts to have to do this - we have a 15-month-old little girl. Cap has nipped at her before, so we have been keeping them separated since. Anytime they've been around each other since then, either me or my husband has been right there."
Cap's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome her: Sadly, Cap recently bit her very young human sibling's face; guardian believes the event arose from jealousy and feels she is not good with little children.
Bite incident: On 14 February 2024, in Galena, MD, Cap bit her 15-mo-old human sibling in the face; the bite broke the skin; animal control was not involved. Cap's guardian further explains:
"On Valentine's Day, our daughter was playing with clothes in a laundry basket and Cap was sitting between her and the bed where my husband was sleeping. I turned around for a second and heard Cap bark/sort of growl and my daughter start crying. Cap bit our daughter's face - got underneath her eye, her chin, cheek and lip. I did not see exactly what happened but I think it was a jealousy thing since she was between my daughter and my husband. I honestly don’t even think she meant to bite her, I think it was more a nip/warning and happened to get her. Our daughter did not need stitches, but got her tetanus booster early and a round of antibiotics just to be safe."
Cap's guardian states the following regarding children: Cap lives with a child (since birth until 15 months of age), but her guardian doesn't recommend her living with young children, stating "Cap has been okay with children outside the home. We fully believe this was a jealousy thing as she is very attached to my husband".
Cap's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Cap doesn't lived with dogs, so her guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating "Cap is typically find with dogs but she can come off a little strong/excited, which sometimes scares other dogs. Has done well in group play settings but is usually more interested in people. Since she's never lived with a dog, we're not sure how she'd be as she does get jealous".
Cap's guardan states the following regarding cats: Cap lives with a cat, so her guardian recommends her living with cats, stating "Wants to chase but not aggressive. She has lived with out cat since 2018 and they do very well together".
Cap's guardian describes her as:
Couch potato
Playful
Friendly
Fence Jumper
Likes to be touched
Affectionate
Always at your side
Indoor dog
House-Trained
Crate-Trained
Likes men
Likes women
Separation anxiety
Cap's guardian describes her ideal future home: "The ideal home would be a family that wants to give her lots of love and attention, would ideally have a 6 ft. fence as she can be a jumper when it comes to chasing squirrels. Somewhere that she can lay outside in the sun, play tug of war, lots of chewy bones, treats and love. A family with adults or older children to spend her days with."
