Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Daphne is a female poodle mix weighing 11.5 pounds, estimated to be about 9 years old. She is ready to find her furever home! So if you are looking for a sweet, adorable, calm and quiet girl to keep you company, she just might be your girl!
When Daphne was rescued we weren’t aware she was deaf. It became obvious over time that she couldn’t hear and we were told there’s a good chance she’s been deaf since birth. So we are working on teaching her hand signs. It’s a work in progress and she’s starting to be more responsive. The vision in her right eye is limited but she does seem to see well with her left eye.
We can’t begin to imagine what Daphne had been through prior to being picked up as a stray on the streets of Cleveland. Likely discarded as trash because she was no longer of use to her breeder. She was emaciated with dirty/matted fur and her feet/nails were in horrible condition. Her mouth was horribly infected with rotted teeth and abscesses. It was so severe that our vet rearranged his schedule to prioritize her surgery. In addition to her dental surgery and spay, she had mammary and ovarian masses removed. One of the mammary tumors and the ovarian mass were cancerous but fortunately they were able to remove all the cancer and she doesn’t need any further treatment. She also had an anal gland infection treated and resolved but she has a small anal gland nodule that will need to be checked in 6 months.
Daphne has healed from her surgeries and she’s now healthy and at a good weight. She has what appears to be an old injury to her right front leg that was left untreated and didn’t heal properly. It has left her with a limp but it doesn’t seem to bother her. She has Meloxicam for pain if needed. She LOVES to eat but we are being careful to maintain her ideal weight.
Her wish list is very short and simple. She is looking for a home without a lot of steps, where she has a soft bed, two meals a day, as many treats as she can get and a human who is home more than they are gone to love her unconditionally.
Daphne is not fully house trained yet but we continue to work on this. She does best if kept on a schedule. She knows to go to the door but if you miss her signal she may have an accident in the house.
She is not crated in her foster home and does fine when left alone. She doesn’t have any destructive behaviors. Daphne sleeps on a dog bed at night. She doesn’t get up on the furniture on her own but she does like it when you bring her up on the couch to cuddle.
She has been good around other dogs in her foster homes but she is not interested in playing and prefers to keep to herself or snuggle with her human. She would not do well with an active dog that needs a playmate. She lived with cats in her first foster home so a home with cats would be fine.
