The adoption fee is waived for Sweet Pickle and ALL Desperate Housecats!

Adorable Sweet Pickle is a HUGE fan of the carrier cuddle puddle! She was a community cat, but life was hard and she wasn’t doing well, so she was brought to AAC.

As a member of our CACTUS CAT program, Sweet Pickle has been receiving clicker training to encourage her relationships with people. Once she knows you, she enjoys being petted and can be very friendly.

Now living in a foster home, Sweet Pickle is doing really well. She is becoming more and more brave every day, is warming up to her canine foster siblings, and gets along beautifully with the other cats in the home.

Sweet Pickle likes hanging out near her foster mom, especially when she`s getting ready in the mornings.

We think Sweet Pickle is a `succulent` Cactus Cat. With plenty of treats and slow, steady trust-building, you could find common ground and friendship!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
