The adoption fee is waived for Sweet Pickle and ALL Desperate Housecats!

Sweet Pickle was a community cat in her previous life, but she wasn’t doing well, so she was brought to AAC.

As a member of our CACTUS CAT program, Sweet Pickle has been receiving clicker training to encourage her relationships with people. With plenty of treats, slow, steady trust-building, and positive reinforcement, you could find common ground and friendship!

Now living in a foster home, Sweet Pickle is doing really well. She is becoming more and more brave every day, is warming up to her canine foster siblings, and gets along beautifully with the other cats in the home. Sweet Pickle likes hanging out near her foster mom, especially when she`s getting ready in the mornings. She also loves to play and chase a wand toy!

Sweet Pickle loves the company of other cats and definitely needs a home with a kitty friend or two! If your cat is lonely or missing a companion, Sweet Pickle is ready for a kitty cuddle puddle!

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please note, Adoption and Pet Resource Center lines close at 6:00 p.m. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
