Austin is a lucky boy, as in "lucky to be alive". At six weeks old he was given away "for free" from a box in front of a store, and his new would-be owner hid him in her coat knowing her husband would not approve. However, her husband heard the pup whimpering a short time later as they drove home. Instead of throwing the pup out the window of the moving car, the man stuffed the pup into a small metal mail box belonging to his niece (in the dead of winter). Lucky Austin was discovered before he froze to death or suffocated, and the niece got him his first shots and tried to find him a home as best she could. Finally, she called the High Plateau Humane Society.
Despite this harrowing start, Austin is an optimistic, happy, 12 week old pup that is eager to explore the world. Our best guess is that he is a Border Collie mix that is going to be about 50 or 60 pounds when full grown. If you are interested in continuing Austin's run of good luck by providing him with a stable home where he can be a valued member of your family, please email Jenn at HPHS@Ymail.com. Austin's adoption fee will be is $300.
