My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There’s no place like home … let’s find Randy one!
If you’re looking for a dog’s dog, a guy’s guy, then Randy is for you.
If Randy were a person, he’d be a young Sylvester Stallone. Solid and in great shape, memorable nose, easy on the eyes. Like a rock on the outside, like a teddy bear inside.
After being home with a BCAR volunteer for a couple of days, here’s what she discovered Randy is like at home:
Randy is a 46-pound, 1-year and 11-month old Mountain Cur. He is calm, easy-going, loves other dogs (and vise versa) and people (also vise versa). He is housetrained and he doesn’t shed a hair, nor beg.
Smart, focused, agile, Randy has all the traits of a Mountain Cur. The breed was developed by early settlers in the Appalachian Mountains to help with hunting and tracking game. You can tell he was bred to be a work dog. Although he can be playful too! He would be an awesome game hunting companion.
Randy is a great walking/running buddy. He will go for miles. You’ll need to get him out walking/running daily, or with lots of outside time in an enclosed yard or field.
When Randy was found wandering, he had what appeared to be severe abrasions on his body and nose caused by an auto-immune disorder. Fortunately, this can be controlled through a low cost maintenance medication. With the help of Dr. Habermann, Randy has healed but the fur on his nose doesn’t seem to want to grow back.
Randy settled into my house like he’s always been there, instinctively knowing his place on the dog bed in my room and settling in on the blanket I put on the sofa beside me, sleeping for hours while I worked.
Besides daily exercise, Randy is low maintenance. He’s not underfoot, and is quite independent. He loves being outside, and spent a lot of time on my deck and screen porch.
OK, now for the cons: None. Pinky promise. He’s good as gold.
Randy is a polite, smooth and refined kind of guy. He’s sweet, loving and smart. Please help find Randy a home! Either with your family or another whom you might share this with. He will thrive with a family’s love. Randy will be a blessing for the family who takes him home forever.
All BCAR dogs are placed as indoor family pets. No electric fences, please. Visit pets every Saturday 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (706-268-1346) or visit our website for adoption information at www.bigcanoeanimalrescue.org
