Moana with her glossy, curly coat and tall stature is a head turner - she`s beautiful inside and out! We`ve been able to get some home notes on her while she was with a finder family and in a foster home. She`s very housetrained, calm, a good listener and obedient inside the home. She also stays well alone when her people are out. She has done well with children in the home. She checks all the boxes for serving her people as a great all around family dog,, and sometimes, that`s an exclusive job! Moana requests that job exclusively and prefers life without other pets. She`s advocated for by her fans and friends including ClassicCaninesATX who are helping to find bridges home. Don`t delay when a mature shelter pet is waiting for your home comforts.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.
