My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Earl Jr. He is about 8 months old, cropped, docked, and about 60 lbs. (He requires a fully fenced yard, no e-fences). He has the perfect Doberman look and exactly what you'd expect from a rambunctious puppy. Earl is in his defiant, seeing what he can get away with phase, and it is not for the faint of heart. You are going to need a lot of patience as he just does not like to be told no. If you are looking to adopt a puppy, you may already know what you're in for; jumping, play-biting, counter surfing, rough play, and everything goes into his mouth. He wants all of your attention and he'll do what he has to to get it. Earl must be restrained in the car or he will jump from the back to the front seat for the entire trip.

Earl is a sweet boy and has great potential, but to be his best self, he needs a lot of exercise, a couple of 20 minute walks each day is not going to cut it. He likes to play ball and is still working on the concept of dropping the ball so it can be thrown again. Your fenced in yard must be at least 6 feet as he can jump really high and will take off after a squirrel given the chance. Earl loves walks and does best with a training collar to keep him from pulling until he learns to walk nicely. He loves hiking, toys and chewing bones of all kinds. He is dog reactive but it doesn't seem to be aggression. He would definitely benefit from some socialization. Earl is food motivated which is great for training, not great for human mealtimes. He is crate trained and spends time in his crate when he is home alone and sleeps there at night. Like a toddler, he needs a forced time out to nap because he rarely stops moving.

Earl was found as a stray, so nothing is known about his background, but someone taught him some basic commands. If you are willing to give Earl Jr your time and attention and really make an effort in training, he is going to make a great companion. He has a high prey drive so no cats as housemates. Earl is located in Virginia.

DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.
