DOG'S DESCRIPTION:  Hi I'm Claire, and I've been lucky enough to land in a great foster home with a very fun older doggie brother! Here's what my foster mom says about me: Claire is one active bundle of cuteness. She gets along well with Toasty (foster's dog) and would do best in a home with another similar sized ACTIVE dog. She is very nose active and loves to sniff around. She would do well with someone who wanted to play some scent games with her. She would also do really well at agility. She has been using my furniture for Parkour practice! She is very food motivated (hence the few extra pounds around the middle). She knows sit, and tends to sit if she thinks food might be around. She also does well in a crate for a few hours. You have to be aware though, that she comes out at full speed and spinning. Claire loves stuffed animals, especially the squeaky kind. She will even bring some to you so you can toss them for her. She also tries to taunt Toasty with them, which he does in return to her. She will steal treats from him, so any already existing dogs would need to be okay with a bratty sister. No accidents so far with the doggie door and back yard being available. All pottying has happened outside. It took her a few hours to understand the dog door. I now have it propped partially open and she can get out and in on her own. Even with it closed she can get back in because she scratches at the door and the dog door opens, voila.Claire acts a lot like a corgi mixed with a boxer. She's constantly batting at things with her front paws. She has that Corgi shape to her body and ears. That also means that she needs to go to a family that's willing to work with her on her batting at people and jumping on people tendencies (older children or children used to exuberant play). She likes to climb up on the chair with me and then crawl around on me, including my back and shoulders, until she finds a spot she likes. A lot like a cat! Once she finds a spot where she can cuddle and get petted she is the happiest pup. She had no problem feeling comfortable quickly.  Claire is a super sweet and loving dog - just the right size and has a great personality! Put in your application today, and make sweet Claire part of your family!

Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.

Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.

Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.org

Additional adoption info

The adoption process is almost always completed within one week of time you submitted your questionnaire (times can vary depending on your location, the dog’s location, and availability). Please, note that we do receive large number of applications for certain litters, and as much as we would like to, we can't always get back to everyone. We appreciate your understanding as all volunteer run organization.

Fill out an adoption questionnaire, found at https://k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt (please note, completion of the Adoption Questionnaire does not guarantee adoption- it is the first step in our adoption process).

· An adoption counselor will call you to review your application.

· The adoption counselor will call your reference, landlord/condo association, and veterinarian (if applicable).

· The entire household should be willing and present for a home visit.

· The adoption counselor will schedule a time for you, your family, and any other pets to meet the dog(s) you've applied for.

Once approved, you will need to finalize your adoption by completing an adoption contract and paying the adoption fee in cash or check. At that time, available medical records will be provided along with a variety of other information.

More about this rescue

K-9 Lifesavers is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that rescues homeless and abandoned dogs. We save canines that are scheduled for euthanasia from high kill shelters, where there are typically held only for 3-7 days. K-9 Lifesavers also strives to educate the importance of responsible dog ownership, including spay/neuter, training, and pet nutrition.

K-9 Lifesavers relies primarily upon our dedicated foster families since we do not operate a shelter. These homes provide loving, temporary care until our rescues find their forever homes. We are always looking for foster families.

Please visit our website at www.k-9lifesavers.org for additional information about K-9 Lifesavers. The website lists our available dogs, volunteer opportunities, foster information, and various ways to donate.

Please help us rescue more canines waiting for their second chance at life with a forever home! Adopt a rescue, foster, volunteer, or donate!
