Dog Name: Stevie.
Breed: Pit mix.
Sex: male, neutered.
Age: 5 years young.
Weight: 58lbs currently and still working on gaining some more.
Medical Needs: He is on neopolydex eye drops twice a day, optixcare eye lube plus once a day and optimmune eye ointment twice a day for his eyes. He will most likely need to be on those the rest of his life to help his eyes. He’s currently on Benadryl for a bump above his eye, it’s mast cell - so that will need to be monitored.
Housebroken: Yes.
Crate trained: Yes, he goes in for a treat and just lays down and snoozes.
Good in the car: Yes, perfect passenger.
Good on a leash: Yes.
Energy level: low-ish.
Need a fenced in yard: not needed but he enjoys free roaming in a fenced in yard near you.
Dog Friendly: Yes.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? Not needed.
Cat Friendly: Not sure - no cats in foster home.
Kid Friendly: Yes.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 12+ due to his vision impairment - old enough to not climb all over him, startle him with sudden fast movements and can just be respectful to his impairment in general.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know?
Stevie despite his vision impairment is such a dream! He is SO sweet, loving, goofy and just the bestest boy. His favorite past time is snuggling up on the couch. He’s got the lay of the land down at his foster home - he gets around just fine here. He relies on his little sniffer often especially when it comes to treats before he takes it from you (ever so gently) he makes sure it’s actual food. He will be your little shadow, he loves to be near his person. He loves anything soft - blankets, pillows, his dog bed, the couch.. anything soft to snuggle on. He enjoys playing with his toys, getting ALL the loving, LOVES treats and enjoys playing with his friends. He still has some puppy left in him some days, it’s adorable - play bow and all. He is literally the cutest especially when his one ear sticks up.
He has quite a bit of eye medications he is given but he takes them all like a champ at home with a little help from some treats. He is not the biggest fan of the vet probing him in his eyes so you will see a tussling side of him there but at home he’s a dream and allows all the things to be done to his eyes. He gets dry food mixed with wet, trying to gain some pounds currently. He has a lump above his eye - it is mast cell so as stated above that needs to be monitored. He takes Benadryl twice daily for that.
He has been residing at his foster home for a couple of months now and he’s come a long way for the better. If you’re willing to put in a little work to help him keep fighting the good fight.. he’s ready for a soft couch to lay on with endless treats - he’ll reward you with kisses and being the best boy!
