My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Cocoa!

The lovable 1-year-old Terrier mix with a heart as soft as her name suggests! Weighing in at a cuddly 35 pounds, Cocoa is the perfect blend of shyness and affection.
She can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but don`t let that fool you! Once she warms up, she`s a big cuddle bug, ready to shower her forever family with love and affection.

Cocoa absolutely loves other dogs and would make a wonderful companion to another dog in the home. Since she can be shy at first, having another dog gives her the confidence that she needs to come out of her shell.
Due to her sensitivity, she would do best in a home with older children, ages 10 to 13 or older. This creates a nurturing environment where Cocoa can feel safe and secure as she grows and learns.

Ready to welcome the sweetness of Cocoa into your life? Stop in today to meet here at 752 West Portage Trail, Akron. We cant wait for you to find your new best friend!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
