My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

AJAX ~3 years old. Good with older, considerate kids and cats. Good with most dogs after careful introduction. Fenced yard required.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Jax is a gorgeous 3yr old German Shepherd who is neutered and up to date on all of his vaccines. He is house/crate trained and loves to play with his furry siblings, both big and small! He currently lives with a cat, and is generally good with her, but will chase her if given the chance.

Jax is a typical German Shepherd: very sweet, smart, stubborn, loving and playful. He follows his foster mom around the house and prefers to be wherever his family is. His favorite thing in the whole world is to play ball. He will play all day if you let him, and will even "search" for it, if you lose it in the yard! Jax previously lived in a home with small children, and we were told that he was great with them. While in his foster home, he has been introduced to two young boys who are "dog savvy" and he did very well with them, but he does not currently live with children. His foster mom thinks he would do best in a home with older, "dog savvy" kids simply because of his energy level-at times he mimics a bull in a China shop!

Jax hasn’t had the best life so far, so not surprisingly he is extremely wary of strangers and is very protective of his family. He will need a strong, patient leader to help him understand that not all strangers are bad and that he doesn’t need to be the “protector” of the family. He will also need a job to do, and/or a very active family, who is willing to consistently work with him on his issues, as well as someone with extensive experience with this wonderful breed. He is incredibly smart and learns quickly but will need consistent training and positive reinforcement in order to thrive.

Go meet their pets

Once approved, we encourage applicants to visit adoption events to meet potential dogs that could be a match.
Before you fill out the application:
1). We do not adopt to individuals living outside of North Carolina, South Carolina, or Virginia.
2). If the only dog you are interested in has a (CL) after their name, this is a courtesy listing and we do not handle the adoptions of courtesy listings, please contact the person directly.

More about this rescue

Thank you for considering adopting a GSRA dog. We love that you are exploring rescuing a GSD. We firmly believe that the adoption of a dog is not one to be taken lightly. Because of this belief, our adoption process is what some would described as lengthy and can be emotional. If you are looking to take a dog home "tomorrow", unfortunately our organization is not for you.
