Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi there, I'm Tessa! I'm a shy, sweet girl searching for a special forever home where I can truly feel loved and secure. My previous family decided they didn't want me anymore, and I'm not quite sure why. I'm still a bit nervous and learning to trust, but I'm slowly coming out of my shell with the help of a few kind people here.
Once I get to know you, I'm all about those wonderful butt scratches and giving sweet kisses! Treats are my favorite, so if you want to win my heart, just keep those snacks coming. I'll definitely need a few visits to get comfortable, but I promise it will be worth it.
I'm still figuring out how to play with toys around humans, but I do love playing with my stuffie toys when no one's watching. I'd also really enjoy having a dog sibling in my new home. My doggy friends here have been helping me build confidence, and they believe having another canine buddy would be fantastic for my growth.
If you have the time and patience to give a shy girl like me a chance, I would love to meet you! Reach out to my friends here at the shelter, and let's see if we're a perfect match. I'm excited to find a loving home where I can truly thrive and be your loyal companion.

At CAHW, we have a program called "Meet Your Match" that is a short questionnaire to help staff match adopters with their perfect match!
3.
Submit Application
Applications typically take 72 hours to process, but may take longer if we are unable to complete certain aspects of the application.
4.
Approve Application
Once an application is approved, we ask that the animal is picked up within 72 hours of the approval. Appointments must be made for pickup.
5.
Sign Adoption Contract
At this time, the approved adopter will receive all medical information regarding the animal while in the care of CAHW.
6.
Pay Fee
7.
Take the Pet Home
We love photo updates for any and every animal that is adopted. CAHW does a 30 day post-adoption follow-up.
Additional adoption info
We ask that potential adopters inform their references, veterinarian office, and landlord (if applicable) that we will be calling in order to minimize the wait-time for callbacks and allow applications to be completed within the 72 hour time frame. Families are encouraged to meet with the animals several times to build a bond before adopting and while the application is being processed- this is not optional for a few of the dogs currently being housed at CAHW due to nervous energy.

More about this shelter
Formed in 1913, The Center for Animal Health and Welfare (formerly the Northampton County SPCA) is a private organization. We are not affiliated with any other SPCA or ASPCA. We are not a government agency, but are a non-profit organization with a 501c3 status.
In 2003 we committed ourselves to saving lives and became a no-kill shelter. We are dedicated to providing a safe and healthy environment for animals. We have improved our foster program, increased adoptions and offer a low-cost spay/neuter program.
Fund raising, donations and bequests make up 90% of our income and we apply for many grants. Adoption fees, relinquishment fees, memberships and agreements with some of the local municipalities, to take in their strays, generate the rest of our revenue. Although we greatly appreciate the help from the municipalities that do support us, not all do. Northampton County contributes about $5,000.
Financials
We are responsible for a $900,000 operating budget annually.
Our major costs are:
Veterinary care
Medical supplies
Kennel supplies
Spay/Neuter expenses
Insurance
Utilities
Payroll.
Adoption
We make every effort to find loving homes for these scared and lonely pets. We do not set a fixed time limit on animals, but keep them for as long as they remain adoptable.
