Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Tiny but indomitable, Daisy-the-Tripod is friendly and affectionate, and isn't easily fazed by anything. As an older girl she likes to keep up to date with her nap time - and she's happiest when nap time is also lap time.
HISTORY
A local shelter reached out to us last summer to help Daisy. She had a badly deformed hind leg and what looked like a large tumor (it turned out to be a large hernia), and between those expensive health needs and being at least 10 years old, her chances of adoption were slim. She has been in foster care since June, and during that time has had the surgery she needed, as well as loving care in a peaceful home.
SOCIALIZATION
Daisy is a little shy when she meets new people, but she warms up fast. She's a friendly and trusting little body! She hasn't been exposed to children while in our care, but we'd expect her to be comfortable with gentle older children. She's too small and fragile to share a home with little kids who are still at the clumsy stage, but she'd happily accept snuggles from polite visiting grandchildren.
She shares her foster home with several small dogs, and has encountered bigger dogs on outings. She's polite and friendly, but not greatly interested in interacting - although a respectful, friendly, laid-back dog might persuade her to play a little.
She is very much a cat person, and will snuggle with her feline foster-siblings any time they let her. She ignores the caged birds and poultry at her foster home.
GENERAL TEMPERAMENT & BEHAVIOR
Daisy is a laid-back, low-energy little old lady. When the weather is good she perks up and will happily spend time exploring her yard, and the fact that she's missing a leg really doesn't faze her! But in cold weather all she really wants to do is snuggle, preferably on a lap and under a blanket. In the absence of a willing snugglee, she'll happily curl up on her bed and snooze the gray days away.
When not snuggling or snoozing, Daisy enjoys a bit of a chew - but only on official chewies; she's not destructive. Apart from that she doesn't really see the point of toys.
Although she's friendly to welcome visitors, she'll let you know when someone is at the door. Generally she's a quiet girl, but she may express an opinion about visitors.
She enjoys car rides and is comfortable going to new places.
TRAINING
Daisy's house manners are excellent. She is reliably house-trained; she'll potty outdoors, but in cold weather she prefers to use a pad indoors. She is crate trained but is so well-behaved she really doesn't need to be crated. She is quick to understands house rules and routines, and has no bad habits.
She hasn't had much actual training, but she understands "go lay down" and has good recall. She walks well on a leash, but - being tiny, gimpy and old - she'd really rather be carried.
HEALTH HISTORY
In addition to a successful hind-leg amputation and an inguinal hernia repair, Daisy has been spayed, chipped, vaccinated and treated against internal and external parasites. Overall she's in good health, but somewhat weak in her hind end, due mainly to lack of exercise during the winter months. Because of this she tires easily, but gentle daily exercise should build her up.
She weighs around 6 lb. Based on our vet's estimate of her age, we've assigned her a birth date of June 1, 2013.
