Here's what the humans have to say about me:
UPDATE: Thunder seems to be coming along slowly, but surely in her foster home. She has bonded with her foster guardian, but still is quite apprehensive around those she perceives to be strangers. When Thunder meets a new person for the first time, she is very curious and circles around that person. Eventually, she musters up the courage to sniff, and ultimately will give you a quick kiss before making her exit. She desperately is trying to be friendly, and it is clear she enjoys praise and positive attention. The ideal guardian for Thunder would be someone with patience and a tremendous capacity for love. Traditional "choke collar and all that jazz" training is not for this special girl. Her former "person" kept her in virtual isolation and loneliness for over three years to the extent that she has built a wall around herself. Much commitment is called for to help Thunder become the companion she has the desire and the ability to be. The reward will be great, though.
This beautiful girl is (now called) Thunder. She has a new life and a new name. We were introduced to Thunder when her "guardian" contacted us. He sold his home and made no accommodations for his faithful friend. Thunder would be homeless very soon. That turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to her!
The first time we saw Thunder, she was chained to a doghouse outside. Therefore, we assumed she hadn't had a very good life. We were right.
Although desperate to reach out for human companionship, Thunder had very few social skills. She was quite skittish, and needed to be handled with lots of TLC. Happy to say that happened. Thunder is in foster care with a very caring person who has brought out the very best in her. We have come to learn that Thunder really is a very gentle dog. She bonded quickly to her new foster guardian, and is on her way to becoming a wonderful companion. (I must add here that even when we first met her, she took treats from our hands very gently - and, she drank water from a cup I offered her with the best of manners.)
Although he would love to keep Thunder as a member of his family, she and his other female dogs don't always see eye-to-eye (she seems to like the boys much better o:)
We are looking for someone kind, someone who knows the German Shepherd breed (a sensitive breed) very well, to adopt Thunder and give her the life (until recently) she never had. Should be an adult household (at least until Thunder develops a lot of self-confidence).
This girl is a diamond in the rough - a tail just waiting to wag for her special someone.
Adoption of Thunder is contingent upon a completed application, a vet reference, approval of her foster "dad," and a home visit. Yes, we are a little fussy, but with the best intentions for our sweet little friend.
